together for a minute. He didn’t want the real world to seep into their lives. Hudson rolled to the side and pulled Siena close. She laid her head on his chest and ran her fingers over the scars.

This was perfect—them together.

They would go see their daughter later.

Siena

Siena's head spun as she sat at the table at Angel’s house. She still couldn’t believe how her friend of five years had kept the fact she was a mercenary a secret. But that didn’t matter at the moment. Angel sat across from her with Casanova and Ginger, Hudson’s teammates. Under the table, Hudson gripped her hand, helping her keep some balance.

Cy was on speakerphone, and everyone was talking to him. Angel glared at Casanova while Ginger watched every move the pretty blonde in the living room made. Next to her sat two other women. Hudson explained those were the three women he helped save. Siena wanted to talk to them and introduce herself, but she didn’t know if she was allowed to.

Her nerves had been on edge since Cy called. One minute, she was chatting with her friend, and the next, reality had returned. It was strange to hear almost every aspect of her previous relationship brought up. Cy told them that Kyle was now believed to be alive. Her ex had tried to fake his death and pin the murder on her. Siena couldn’t wrap her head around this. Once again, Cy had come to the rescue and stopped the police from showing up at her house. If it hadn’t been for him, she would be in jail for a crime she didn’t commit.

“The police are on their way to the cabin,” Cy announced. “They have enough evidence to send him away for the trafficking.”

“Are we sure he’s not going to slip through the system again?” Hudson asked as he squeezed her hand. The same question was on the tip of her tongue.

“Yes. I made sure the police have everything they need,” Cy said.

“How?” Siena blurted. “I was an eye witness to him making drugs in his lab. I called the police, and they arrested him at the scene. What more proof did they need?”

“The precinct he was booked at is underfunded and short staffed.” Cy’s voice boomed. “I’m not saying that as an excuse for the bad police work, but it happens. Evidence was lost during the arrest. The attorney he hired…well, the cartel hired a shark of a lawyer. Hell, they might even have paid someone to get rid of the evidence. I could pull up the feed and find out. Your ex was not only deep in drugs. He also helped with the trafficking of kids. The school he worked at had kids with parents with lots of money. A few of them went missing.”

“I don’t remember that.”

“Because the families are all extremely wealthy and don’t want that type of information to hit the news. They don’t contact the police. Instead, they pay the ransom and get their kid back. The cartel will keep draining money and never return the kids. Kyle fed information to the cartel about which kids had the most money. I’m guessing you pick up a lot of tidbits about your students in a class. They talk, and if you listen close enough, you can hear them bragging.”

“How did I not see what type of person he was?” Siena whispered. Damn. I was so caught up in trying to make things work that my blinders were up.

“Do we know where they keep these kids?” Angel asked, her knuckles turning white.

“The Oaxaca Cartel has run trafficking and drugs for years. The head of the organization flew into town yesterday. Something big is about to go down,” Cy said. Siena could hear his keyboard tapping.

Siena’s stomach turned, thinking about the children in danger. This wasn’t good.

“Do we have a time and place for when he lands?” Casanova asked.

A long tired sigh came through the phone. “I spoke to Xavier earlier, and he’s going to put a team on Guzman once his wheels hit the ground.”

“I’ll call Xavier the second I hang up with you, and we’ll have eyes on the ground. I hate that these people are using children to increase their funds,” Angel said.

Angel never told Siena her story about growing up. She’d only said it wasn’t something she didn’t like to talk about. It seemed she kept a lot of secrets from her.

“Down, killer. How about I keep you company in the car during the
