A Crown Of Smoke And Ash - Sloane Murphy Page 0,30
dry, aware that Levi's eyes barely leave me, and crawl into bed. He closes the curtains, and shuts off all the lights, closing the door softly as he leaves.
Shouts wake me the next morning, and I groan into my pillow. I know I need to get up, and I know that I need to go and find out whatever the hell is going on out there, but I just don't really want to leave my pillow fort. I feel better after yesterday, I needed to get it out to be able to start to heal from it. A part of me felt like Kain was partially to blame, because he shouldn't have been there, but in one of the many times I woke last night, I realized blame isn't going to make me feel any better, and I know deep down he was there to help me. He did not intend for things to get as insane as they did, and so, I've made my peace with it.
The shouting gets louder, and I hear something smash. Men.
I huff and climb from the bed, pulling on a tank and a pair of boy shorts from my bag since it’s closest, and storm out of my room to the sitting room where the voices are getting ever louder.
"Fuck you all very much for waking me up!" I shout as I reach the room, which goes silent at my words. "What the ever loving hell are you all shouting about?"
My hands on my hips, I stare them down, and they each have the decency to look sheepish.
"I mean, in my defense, I hadn't said a thing yet." Creek shrugs with a huge grin, which I end up mirroring, but this is frankly, just ridiculous.
"Your Angel wouldn't let us see you, ma chérie. He also wouldn't say why you weren't available last night, or why you weren't to be disturbed. As you can imagine, worry was high, all things considered, and tempers ran hot," he says, looking straight at Roman.
"I'm not going to apologize for trying to make sure she's okay. And you can all suck my dick if you think otherwise," Roman says, crossing his arms and leaning against the wall behind him. My eyes flash at him, thinking about doing exactly that, but this is not the time. He catches my gaze, and I know he catches my thoughts when his eyes light up.
"Keep your dick in your pants, pup. She's awake now, no thanks to you. And I told you, she just needed rest. God knows she deserves some." Levi sends me a small smile.
"Well, I'm here you can see me. I'm fine. I just had a moment, that was all. I needed some space to put myself back together, but I'm okay," I tell them, and I face a mix of expressions from concern to smug.
"Of course, the Angel got to help you when you finally broke." Creek rolls his eyes. "I'm just glad you're okay, Remy. I'm here if you need to talk anymore. Oh, and Mom said she'd break my teeth if I didn't give you this." He stands and strides towards me, before hugging me so tight he lifts my feet from the floor. I smile as that hurt inside me loosens a little, knowing that Maddie is still in my corner, even if she doesn't agree with everything.
"Thank you," I croak, trying to swallow the rising emotions. I pull back from him, but he keeps his position at my side. "Now then, there has to be something I can do to help. You've all been off being useful, tell me what's happening."
"Things are quiet on the Hunter front. I mean, the Elders about exploded after your meeting with your brother, but they dare not anger their creator for fear of being wiped from existence," Creek says with a small smile, and Levi barks out a laugh.
"Good," he says with a smug smile.
"Otherwise, people are still trying to look into the rogue thing, but they're hitting walls. A few people have turned up dead after they thought they were making headway in discovering who they were rallying behind, killed by the same materials that were used against Denny. And once they died, their informants went silent too, I imagine for fear of their own lives," Creek says, and despite his nonchalance, I can tell how much the not knowing is getting to him. I pinch the bridge of my nose, trying to relieve some of the growing
