A Crown Of Fire And Wrath (The Shadow Walkers Saga #5) - Sloane Murphy Page 0,97
I was a doctor or a professional dancer, living the high life. Not that I’d change the last year or so of my life for a minute, it’s just strange, thinking about what might have been if I’d made the wrong decision.
“It just seems silly when there’s so much going on.” He sighs as he lounges on the edge of the bed.
“The guys have all of the crazy covered right now. If anything, there are officially too many cooks in this kitchen. Plus, after everything we’ve dealt with lately, I think we deserve a night of normal,” I say as I come to stand in front of him. His hands settle on my hips as his eyes rake over me.
“I don’t know, I can think of better things for us to be doing if we’re not helping out tonight.” He licks his lips but I shake my head.
“You’re not getting out of this dinner. I know you’ve not seen Nirvana since we got back from the Shadow Realm, and I know it’s dangerous, but she’s not going to notice anything. She’s a teenage girl. She’s got far more important things to think about than the possibility that the supernatural is real, and that she’s eating dinner with an angel and demi-demon… is that the right word?” He laughs at me and stands before me. kissing my forehead.
“Come on, let’s go, before I change my mind and you lose your dress.” He takes my hand and pulls me from the room. I grab my clutch from the dresser as we pass it and close the door behind us, yelling goodbye to the others as we pass through the sitting room. Creek doesn’t let us stop, and seeing the look in my guys eyes, I understand why. Maybe I should make more of an effort more often. Who knows, maybe I will when people stop trying to kill me.
Creek drives Betty, music playing softly in the background as we head to his parents’ house. I haven’t seen Maddie and Nate since Thanksgiving, and I haven’t seen Nirvana since before my birthday. The fear of putting her at risk with us being there is real, despite what I said to Creek, but he needs to see his sister before she starts to worry about him. My fear is more from everyone being attacked because we’re there than anything else, but Levi assured me that Serafina would keep a watchful eye over the house and the surrounding areas should any threats pop up.
Considering her track record of saving my ass, despite her ice queen front, makes me feel better that she’ll be out there having my back. We’ve fought back to back more than a few times, so I trust her skills almost as much as my own.
I let out a deep breath quietly trying to expel my anxiety as we pass the sign telling us we’ve reached Salem’s Bay. I wring my hands out in my lap, while Creek focuses on the road. It’s dark out considering the hour, but the moon shines down so brightly that it doesn’t seem so bad until we reach the streetlights that light up all of Salem’s Bay. It doesn’t take us long to reach his parents’ place since the area isn’t exactly huge, and his leg bounces as we pull up out the front of their house.
“It’s going to be fine,” I tell him, squeezing his hand, before we climb from the car.
“Creek!” Nirvana squeals as she flies from the house and Creek catches her. She might be getting older, but he still dwarfs her. “Holy crap, how did you get even bigger?”
Her laughter makes me smile, and I look up from them to see Maddie and Nate in the doorway watching them.
“So big brother, you finally got the girl I see.” She winks over at me and I laugh again. “This is a story I need to hear, just without the gross stuff. I do not need to hear about your junk.”
Creek’s laugh booms from him and my heart warms. He was so scared about her seeing him and knowing he’s different, but she’s so blissfully ignorant. It’s enough to make me sad that she’s going to age up soon enough to awaken.
“I’m not sure I’m the best story teller,” Creek chuckles as he moves her back towards the house, and I follow them up the porch steps. He hugs his mom and dad as we enter, and then they move to hug me.
