A Crown Of Fire And Wrath (The Shadow Walkers Saga #5) - Sloane Murphy Page 0,26

of both of their stares slams into me, but I roll my shoulders and press forward.

“So, it definitely could have been her, but we have no proof. I also have no idea why she’d hold the grudge for so long.”

“Well, she kind of disappeared from the face of the universe after you died. No one has seen or heard from her since. She never returned with the other Death Dealers. No one knew where she went,” Michael tells me, before shooting Levi a look. “Leviathan was too busy sorting out the mess he’d created with the Hunter’s curse and dealing with the fall out of what he did for you to be much use in the first few months after your death.”

“Don’t pretend like I was the only one who was distracted,” Levi snarls, and I sigh.

“Please?” is all I say and they both nod. At least they’re trying, that’s more than I’ve gotten from either of them before.

“Thank you. Since you think it’s Amelia, do you have any idea where she could be? Any idea why she’d still be attacking after so long?” I ask Michael.

“Some grudges burn so deep, that they’re impossible to move past.” His gaze darts over my shoulder towards Levi but looks back at me quickly. “I can’t say for sure as to why, but she’s definitely someone of interest. Just with everything going on here right now, I don’t have people to spare to search for her.”

“What does that mean?” Levi asks.

“There is a reason there was not a vote about the two of you coming back on board. Things here are unsettled. I’m still looking into the why of it, but dissension is crawling through the ranks here. Whispers questioning our alliances.” His words crash into me like a wave. It’s because of me. Because he’s been helping me.

“I’m sorry,” I whisper.

“It is not your fault, little bird. I have been distracted since Levi saved you a year ago. It’s amazing how petty immortals can be, considering that amount of time is but a drop in the ocean for us. But regardless, I have it under control for now.”

“We have numbers, in the human realm and in the Shadow Realm. We can put out feelers, see if anyone knows anything about the missing angel,” Levi tells him.

“I’ve done some research, you can take it with you. Hopefully it will help. If I can help more I will, but if you both refuse to stay here, there isn’t much I can do to keep her safe.” Michael looks directly at Levi.

“Of course we’re not staying. She’ll be safe with us.”

“You mean like she was safe before? She would be safe here. Protected in the way all of Avalon is. With me,” Michael counters, and my anger rises. Are they seriously talking about me like I’m not standing right fucking here?

“She will be safe at home,” Levi growls.

“This is her home!” Michael booms, and I lose my shit.

“Are you seriously fucking trying to make this decision for me, as if I’m not standing right the fuck here?” I glare at them both, but they’re both so fucking stubborn and bone headed that they don’t back down. You could cut the tension in the room with a knife.

“The decision of my safety does not belong to either one of you. You can give me your opinions, hell, I welcome them, but if either of you think you are going to dictate to me, you can jog the fuck on.” I am so angry I can barely see straight. I am sick of being treated like I’m less. At the crackle in the room, I look to Levi, worried his anger has gotten away from him, and find his wide-eyed stare at me.

A sort of black lighting curls around my hands and forearms. What the actual fuck is that?

“Remy, take a deep breath,” Levi says lowly, his voice soothing, but the anger inside of me reacts, as if he’s just trying to dictate another fucking order to me. I push at the rage, the logical voice in the back of my mind reaching me amongst the swirling of emotion inside of myself. I shake my head and take a deep breath. That’s when I feel that tether inside of me, flying around like a live wire. I clench my fists and pull on the tether, pulling the power back inside of myself.

“Morgan really wasn’t messing around when she said there was something dark inside of you,” Levi
