crabby-looking expression as he spoke to the prospect.

“What do you think about drinks at The Roadhouse tomorrow night?” Jenna asked.

“Sounds good. I need to go see my cat and make sure she’s good anyway.”

Jenna smirked.

“What?”

“Nothin’,” she said and then glanced at Christian one last time. Bick had his attention on us again, so we turned and went through the alley and up the back stairs to Jenna’s place.

I got upstairs to another text from Dad. It was time to make an appearance with my father. Dad had been texting me a few times a day and in a way that let me know he was just checking in. He didn’t say, ‘hey, you ok?’ instead he’d ask questions about the clubhouse construction project. He’d sent a text earlier asking for the schedule for the following week for the bar. It probably got mixed up in his papers during the blow-up over the calendar. Or, he had it and used it as a reason to check in. He later asked whether I had picked the tiles for my bathroom in the new clubhouse yet. That decision wasn’t due for a week.

This text was to ask me if I got my pay. He’d sent me a bank transfer of $1500.00. I knew he’d get a confirmation when I deposited it, which I did, though I hadn’t worked hardly any hours all week and yet he gave me more money than the last pay. Even though I’d only been at Jenna’s a few days, he needed to see me and hadn’t asked directly – this was his way of asking. I also hadn’t put in any appearances with my other brothers, though they weren’t messaging me likely because I was in Rider’s and Jenna’s apartment so knowing where I was at all times and being under Rider’s or a prospect’s supervision, sort of, probably appeased them.

The prospects weren’t at a point of being forced to babysit us inside Jenna’s place yet, only trailing along if we needed to go someplace as well as being at Jenna’s salon during the day, because Rider had put in a top-of-the-line alarm system a while back.

Andie came over and we spent Friday night watching movies.

Not long after I went to bed, I heard Rider come in and then, to my horror, I heard Jenna and Rider doing it. I heard him laughing and then growling while she giggled before I heard her moaning. I decided to use the little bonus Dad had given me to order some noise-canceling headphones for any future sleepovers at their place.

It was Saturday night and it was more than the typical Dominion Brotherhood night at Deke’s Roadhouse. The place was packed with biker patches, most of them our patches. And it wasn’t just our chapter. My educated guess was that there’d been a multi-chapter church session here earlier today as an explanation for all the eagles on leather, quite a few from other chapters.

I walked in and was immediately engulfed in the arms of Nico, the new brother who’d defected from the Jackals with Christian. I had only met him a handful of times, but he was a giant badass who had been instrumental in helping us dismantle the Jackals.

“Oh. Hey,” I greeted in surprise as I was lifted off my feet with a big squeeze.

“You okay, darlin’?” Another former Jackal, now Dominion Brotherhood brother, Justice, asked.

Nico was a big and mean-looking biker whereas Justice could be in a male version of the biker babes calendar. Truly. Justice was fine with a capital F. Chiseled looks. Muscles. Swagger.

Christian was here, sitting on a stool at the bar, a beer to his lips, pretending I wasn’t standing behind him.

“I am, thanks to Superman over here.”

He looked over his shoulder at me. I stared straight into his eyes. They looked cold and dead. I frowned, feeling it like physical pain. He saw my reaction, I know it. He turned away and his eyes went back to the TV screen over the bar showing a baseball game.

“Modest, I guess,” I said with a shrug because Nico and Justice both stared at him in a way that asked, What’s wrong with that guy?

Justice laughed and slapped Christian on the back. “Fork-man. Got a stick up yer arse or what?”

He glared at him. “Suck my cock,” he spat.

“Asshole,” Nico snapped. “You do not speak that way around a lady.”

“This is a fuckin’ biker bar, bozo. She don’t like it, she won’t come.”

“This is our biker princess, though,
