her. We keep her in her pills, and she keeps him informed.”

I shook my head. “What’s going on now then?”

“He’s downstairs tellin’ the boys what’s to be done as she’s now makin’ threats. He’s probably doing damage control. Though it might be too late. She probably won’t trust him now she knows he married you. She probably had no idea anything with you was real, if she knew there was anything with you two at all.”

“I had no fucking idea there was anything with him and her, fake or not.”

“Definitely fake, baby sister. You think if I thought otherwise for a fuckin’ minute I’d have backed his play with you to our family?”

“Why does this feel like cheating, Deacon? He said nothing. He didn’t tell me anything about pretending anything with her.”

He pulled me into a hug. “Give him the benefit of the doubt. Man’s spent all his spare energy the last eight months trying to take out the Jackals, watching over his shoulder, and trying to keep ahead of shit so no one’d get hurt. Cut him some slack. He’s not Hanson. Don’t let what that guy did to you make you fuck up here and damage your marriage.”

There was a knock at the door. Deacon opened it and let Ella in. She sat down beside me with a pout on her face.

I hugged her and cried on her shoulder. “He didn’t tell me anything about any fake thing with Paige. Is it fake?”

“I hope so,” she whispered.

“What if it isn’t?” I sniffled.

“It is, Jojo,” Deacon said firmly.

“It better be,” Ella whispered. “Or I’ll kill him for you.”

There was another knock at the door and Deacon opened it again. This time it was Jenna and Pippa.

“Do I gotta stay if all three of them are in here to rally around you?” Deacon asked. “Your man wants you in this room. Don’t leave.”

“You’re not the boss of me,” I grumbled, then blew my nose.

Deacon smiled. “Stay here and have the respect for your husband to hear him out, to stay and wait for him like he asked.”

“Fine.”

When Christian was back, Ella, Jenna, and Pippa immediately left.

Ella left the room last, pointing at him with a scowl on her face and he glared at her, arms folded across his chest before he shut the door and locked it.

I was up against the pillow with my cat, knees pulled up to my chest. My eyes were raw and puffy.

He leaned against the door and stared.

“Fuckin’ pissed at you,” he told me.

My eyes went wide. “Not as fucking pissed as I am at you!”

“I neglected to tell you something. You accused me of cheating.”

“Did you?”

“Did I what? Cheat? You fuckin’ think that after me telling you tonight it didn’t happen then we’ve got a big fuckin’ trust problem, woman.”

I said nothing but folded my arms across my chest too.

“It’s fucked now anyway. She’s now a dried-up resource.”

“Oh boo fucking hoo. Maybe you should’ve kept our marriage secret so she could continue to be your fake biker bunny girlfriend and then you’d keep getting fed your precious information. Maybe you should’ve waited to marry me until your mission was done.”

His nostrils flared at me.

“I never touched her.”

“Good. Then I don’t have to castrate you.”

He looked a little surprised. He looked like he wanted to laugh, maybe. I wasn’t fucking joking.

He didn’t actually laugh, though.

“She’s gone. So’s Juicy. Game’s over with her and it might get ugly. Had to threaten her, Nolan told me she threatened you and that will not fuckin’ stand. She didn’t take well to it and the bitch is scared now. Scared of The Brotherhood and scared of the Jackals, so no tellin’ what that’ll mean.”

I shook my head. “She said she loves you. She’s loved you since she was sixteen.”

He laughed bitterly. “She loves gettin’ high, getting’ laid, buyin’ slutty clothes in order to get attention of people who help her get high ‘n laid.”

I made a face of distaste.

“Haven’t fucked her since well before I got the brotherhood patch. Bitch turned me off a long fuckin’ time ago. Wasn’t easy to keep gettin’ info from her without giving her my dick, but I was playin’ the game and gettin’ by the last little bit. What she cared most about was the wad of cash I’d thrown her every time she gave me something useful. The fuckin’ talk about after it was over was vague and I made zero fuckin’ promises. I also had her feedin’ Sarge information about me
