in and then slammed it. “What the fuck, woman?” he repeated.
“What’ve you done, Christian? What promises have you made her? Are you already cheating? Have you touched her since you told me you loved me? Has she touched you?”
“Settle the fuck down and let me answer one of those seventeen fucking questions.”
I was pacing.
“Stop, Jojo. Sit.”
“Don’t tell me to fucking sit. I’m not your goddamn dog.”
“Then why are you being a fucking bitch right now?”
I gasped and then I started throwing pillows at him from my bed. I had a half a dozen of them. My phone lock screen was him lying on my bed, his hair fanned out over my pink pillow with the black leopard spot trim with the frills. That pillow was now on the floor. He tackled me to the bed and held me down by pinning me.
“Chill the fuck out, woman. Right now,” he shouted.
I was gasping and struggling to get free, but it was no use so finally I just closed my eyes and cried.
I sobbed. It wasn’t pretty. At all.
“God, you’re in hysterics, Jojo. The fuck? We’ve been married two weeks. You think I’m fuckin’ cheating on you? You think I’m a piece of shit?”
“You just said ---”
“I’ve been lettin’ her believe some shit so that she’ll give us information. If it weren’t for that game with her, you wouldn’t be here. She told me they were plannin’ on bombing Rudy’s house not five minutes before I got you the fuck outta that room.”
I jolted.
“She was my eyes and ears in the dregs of the Jackals.”
“She loves you,” I whispered. “And thinks you’re gonna be together after this is over.”
“She doesn’t fuckin’ love me. And as for bein’ together later, she’s obviously wrong. I’m gonna give you up for that? What the fuck? Tell me everything, Jojo. I gotta know.”
“Sarge made Juicy try to get upstairs to get the layout, figure out which room is which. Juicy, you know… who sucked your dick a few weeks ago?” I hissed. “Your fake girlfriend Paige was supposed to get up here and do that but couldn’t get in here so Juicy got the assignment. Looks like your fake girlfriend is playing both sides just like you supposedly were.”
“I already know she’s fucking Sarge and whoever else is left over there. Handful of members between Ipswich and Sioux Falls are all crashin’ together near Watertown. That bitch only loves what she gets from me.”
“And what’s that?” I hissed.
There was hammering of a fist on the door.
“Just a minute!” he shouted toward the door.
“You’re needed down in the kitchen, Fork,” came my brother Deacon’s voice. “Right now, brother.” Deacon meant business.
“Fuck sakes,” he grunted, then shouted. “Deacon wait!”
He let go of me. “You stay here.”
I glared. He jumped up and opened the door. “Can you stay with her and keep her calm? Keep her here?”
“Yeah man.”
My big brother came in and his eyes were concerned. I was lying on my bed crying.
“Be back, baby,” Christian leaned over and kissed my lips. “Fuckin’ pissed at you right now, woman, but I love you. I’m not cheating on you. Not at fuckin’ all. Stay here.” He stormed out.
I sobbed into my hands.
“Hey?” Deacon said. I felt the bed depress as he sat.
I took my hands away from my face and stared at my big brother.
“He’s just been payin’ lip service to Paige. This was one of Dad’s issues when he took off with you that first day. Dad thought the same thing you’re thinkin’… that he was fucking Paige to pump her for information. He swore he wasn’t. If I didn’t believe him, no way would I have stood with him on your wedding day.”
“He didn’t tell me he had anything fake going with anyone. And that feels really fucking ugly, Deacon.”
“I know, Joelle. I can see it on your face. Just remember, everything he’s doin’ he’s doin’ for the club, for you and all of us to breathe easy. That gash has it bad for him, he’s just using that to his advantage. She ain’t loyal, meant nothing to him, just a club whore who doesn’t like that she doesn’t have anybody much left. She’s just tryin’ to hang onto him to keep her habits goin’ and she thinks she can get more out of him.”
“Her habits?”
“He throws her cash.”
“He throws her cash? What?”
“She’s a pill popper. It ain’t comin’ outta his pocket. It’s a club expense. She doesn’t know this, thinks of him as takin’ care of
