moment. I texted my cop cousin, Brice.
Hey. Is your hot partner single?
Brice took a while to answer.
Brice: He is. And I already denied it when he
requested your #. He’s a total player, Jj.”
Me: Give it to him. I need his help making someone
jealous.
A text came in from Jenna.
Jenna: Friday. Coffee date down the street from my
place. His name is Daniel. He looks like he could be
Henry Cavill’s brother and he’s down for some
pot-stirring fun. He wants a real date with Andie as
his price for a fake date with you so this is
perfection because I’ve been dying to set her up.
I lay back on my bed and smiled.
Christian Forker couldn’t stand the thought of me with anyone else. He convinced himself that it was seeing me with a brother that’d make things hard, but if my suspicions were correct that he was like any alpha where it wouldn’t matter what sort of man it was, only that it was anyone but him, he’d be stirred into action.
I would have dates back to back for Friday and Saturday night. And I would make sure Christian Forker found out about them.
I had no doubt in my mind that this plan would work.

I’d seen him twice and been ignored both times. This prevented me from ignoring him. He was expert at being a cold, irritable dick. In fact, the second time we passed one another in the hall, I said as much, because the first time, I’d looked right at his face and he didn’t even register that I was passing him. I was 100% invisible.
“You’re a dick,” I said under my breath, shouldering him as I walked by the second time. My cat followed him into the bathroom, though she made a cat-greeting sound at me as she did, at least.
She hadn’t been in my room much at all lately. I’d suspected she was still sleeping with him. He ignored my remark. I gave him the finger behind his back, wishing he’d turn and see it. He did not.

Friday night, I had a date with Daniel. Dan was a sexy, buff businessman guy and we went for a simple coffee date and then a walk down the strip where Jenna’s beauty salon was. I didn’t see Christian, but I did see Jesse, Scott, and Bronto drive by on their motorcycles. This was perfect.
We walked down the street eating ice cream. We did not look like a typical couple. I had on flip flops and a jean skirt with a knotted at my lower back Harley tee and he wore a suit and tie. He grabbed my hand as soon as the sound of the motorcycle pipes signaled bikes were coming, knowing just a little bit of the details --- that I was interested in a biker who was fighting his feelings for me and that I wanted word to get back to him that I was dating other guys.
All three bikers looked directly at us as they passed.
“Thanks for that,” I said to Dan after they’d turned the corner and were out of sight.
“Not a problem. So, she likes her job at the bakery then?” He let go of my hand and resumed licking his ice cream cone.
“She seems to. Her family opened the bakery when she was a little kid. She lives above it.”
“Oh, really? Neighbors with Jenna.”
“Yep.”
“What do you think she’d like to do on a date? Jenna’s said she has her in for a hair appointment Tuesday so I’m gonna coincidentally pop by and take the opportunity to ask.”
“Hm, let me think…”
“You’re good friends, though?”
“We’ve been friends a few months and we’ve gotten tight fast, but I don’t know about her dating preferences. She doesn’t date much. She’s a foodie and she loves movies. What about dinner and a movie?”
He made a face of interest.
“I see you’re thinking that’s a good challenge then that she doesn’t date much?”
He smiled. “She’s attractive and makes me laugh. She’s talented at baking and seems passionate about food. I’m hoping that passion will translate to other areas.” He took a long and sweeping lick of his ice cream and gave me a scandalous grin.
I laughed. “That’s either really hot or very creepy. I’m not sure yet which.”
“Believe me, it’s hot,” he assured.
I laughed. We were back in front of Jenna’s salon.
Andie picked that moment to come into view, leaving the bakery, hurrying along and then stopping dead. She had flour on her cheek, which was a common sight.
