have made peace with him. It is not so. Michael will come after me with all his might. You promised me sanctuary; therefore, he will slay you too. But if you walk with me, we can defeat him.”
“No,” Nevaeh said. “Please, Raphael, don’t listen to him.”
“Why not, girl? I know my brother’s value, and I would appreciate it, unlike your commander, who ripped his heart out along with his wings, humiliating him in front of everyone,” Lucifer said. “Raphael can raise the dead. Did you know that, girl? I would kill for that power.” He dusted off the top of his left wing. “I’ll be in my little castle, feeling sorry for myself. So little land, so much potential.”
“Don’t think about expanding,” I said as he lifted away.
“Don’t think about walking back the deal.” His gaze slid to Nevaeh, and I knew he could reach her, mark her, bring her into his fold.
I followed the signature of Lucifer’s power as far as I could track him, and when I ascertained he’d left, I stood in my garden for what felt like hours. Nevaeh said nothing either, for which I was grateful. Lucifer was toying with souls. Under normal circumstances, I’d summon Michael and Gabriel immediately and tell them the grave news. Lucifer should not have access to creatures in the heavens, but he did, and the link or the road he took to contact those creatures would give them access to the mortal realm and every soul there, living or dead.
The more pressing issue was his access to Nevaeh, and I chuckled, finding myself in the same position as Michael had been with Julia. What could I do differently to avoid Nevaeh’s certain death? Locking her in my chambers and never letting her out sounded excellent. Her soul would wither, but she’d live. And what about Nephilim? She would breed us Nephilim, a boy or a girl I’d have to hide from wretched soul-stealing creatures for eternity.
I could join Lucifer. He was my brother too, the other side of the same coin.
Nevaeh rose and walked along the hedge. I sat in her place, content to watch her long legs bend at the knee as she walked. Hand extended, she reached for the Highland Majesty flower. The petals moved and opened, showing teeth in the yellow center, startling my soul’s mate.
“They will only open for those loyal to me,” I said. “I am pleased, if surprised.”
Nevaeh faced me. “You cannot stand with Lucifer.”
“I can.”
“You cannot!”
“I don’t like your tone.”
“I don’t care.”
My power lashed out, and in a second, she straddled me. I pulled her closer, gripping her neck. I wanted to get lost in the pleasure of her flesh for days, until the end of my days. Which was a problem. She was a mortal, and her days were numbered. “Which Court do you belong to?”
She pinched her lips shut.
I ripped her dress and pulled my pants down so I could thrust into her, move her over my body any way I wanted at any pace I wanted. I released her body so she could move away if she wished. Nevaeh fisted my hair with both hands and pulled, jerking my head back. A growl ripped out of me, and I grabbed her hips and let her do whatever she wanted with my body. She hooked her feet over my knees and rose up and down on me, fast, her pretty face inches from mine, her mouth open to receive my tongue.
I gripped her breasts. Heavy and full, they bounced, and I took one into my mouth, sucking as she rode me, seeking pleasure of her own. I restrained myself from experiencing the feeling of her orgasm, and I detached from her breast as I felt her channel pulse, squeeze me, and make me seed her again.
She released my hair and slumped against me. We breathed, chest to chest, and I wrapped my arms around her.
“You’re angry,” she said.
“I am.”
“If this is how you're angry, stay that way.”
I squeezed her bottom. “I’m angry at Michael. I’m angry Lucifer knows you’re mine, but most of all, I’m angry because I don’t yet have your heart or your trust. I have your loyalty, but I want everything from you. Everything. Tell me, mortal, how can I have it all?”
Nevaeh reared back, blinked, opened her mouth, closed it, likely thought better of whatever she wanted to say, then finally uttered, “Your dick will pave the way.”
I threw my head back and laughed. She laughed
