felt my body cling to him, and with every whispered I love you, my heart mended just a little. And when he finished, he laid on top of me, his fingers brushing through my hair as he gazed into my eyes, and I knew I was home. I just had to find a way to make this work for us, to keep him and not give up everything I wanted.
He shifted off me and laid on his side, just staring at me, his fingers brushing lightly down my cheek. I felt my cheeks warm as he stared at me, like I was everything he wanted and he would never let me go. I had spent years hating him, while also wishing I could have him back. I was always too afraid to ask about him, worried that he had moved on with life and forgotten about me. Now I knew that neither of us had been able to shake what we used to have. Time may have separated us, but the love we shared could never truly be severed. He was it for me, and always would be.
His face turned serious. “I have to go into work tomorrow morning. It won’t be for the whole day, but I have to make sure that the board has taken care of Mosley. After that, I’m all yours for two weeks.”
I ignored the part where he had to go into work. He would always have to go into work, and I had to get used to that. This was part of who he was. So, instead I smiled and tucked the sheet up around my chest, shaking off the chill that ran through me. “What will we do for all that time?”
“Well, I was thinking we could stay here, ignore the rest of the world and just spend all our time in bed.”
“Hmm, that does sound like a good plan, but I think I might end up in the hospital if we spend that much time in bed.”
“Bad back?” he asked, quirking an eyebrow at me.
“No,” I laughed. “I think my lady parts would take a beating.”
“That’s not good,” he said seriously. “Do you think they would arrest me?”
“For what?”
“Abuse. I’ll have to check into this, see if there’s any precedence before we move forward on our plans. I don’t want to end up in jail.”
“For screwing me so hard my lady parts are bruised?”
“Exactly.”
“Hmmm, I think we have other things to worry about.”
“Such as?”
“Christmas,” I reminded him. “You know we can’t just hide away in your apartment during Christmas. Your brothers will be expecting us, and if you’ve forgotten, your brother is getting married on Christmas Eve. And since you put me in charge of organizing your brother’s wedding, I have to make sure that everything is ready.”
“Which means you need to head back to the country,” he surmised.
“Sorry, but you did this to yourself,” I chuckled.
“Well, I didn’t think at the time that I stood a chance of ever having you back.”
“So, how are we going to spend our vacation together if I have to be in the country?”
“How about this,” he grinned, “I’ll finish up at the office tomorrow morning and then drive us down to my brother’s house. You can go over the final wedding details with Kat.”
“And what are you going to be doing?”
He smiled deviously at me, making me wonder what he was up to. “I have a few things I need to take care of.”
“Why does that make me worry?”
He shrugged lightly and leaned forward to kiss me. “You should know, everything I do, I do for you.”
He kissed me harder, pushing me back down into the mattress as he slid between my legs and made love to me all over again.

“We’ve made sure that everyone knows about Mosley,” Dawson assured me. “We’ve all agreed that we don’t need someone like him working with us.” His eyes flicked across the room to Bremmerman, another board member. “We’ve come across some information, proving this is not the first time he’s done this to someone in the company. Apparently, he had someone in HR working with him to cover up allegations. That person has been let go. We think the problem has been solved.”
“Good,” I said, standing from the conference room table. “I have a vacation to get to. I’ll see all of you after the new year.”
“Don’t you want to know who we’ve selected to replace him as senior partner?” Cameron asked.
