Working Out West - Lila Rose Page 0,16

confusion.

Right, I would make a plan.

I’d keep myself busy with schooling, work, and friends. I’d catch up with Kylo without Lucas. Since Lucas was in his bubble of happiness, I didn’t want to rain on it by talking about the mess I’d made of things. I also had to look for another place to stay since my lease was up soon and I hated the new neighbors who’d moved in.

“West?”

I groaned and flopped my head Death’s way. “Did I miss something again?”

He grinned. “We’re here.”

I straightened and looked out the window. Shit, that was fast. “Sorry, got a headache coming on.”

“Want me to walk you in?”

Grinning, I reached out and patted his arm. “Aren’t you sweet, but I’ll be fine.”

His lips thinned. “Take care, yeah?”

I opened the door and climbed out. “Will do, you too.”

He snorted. I waved and shut the door. It was time for some relaxation. A shower and then sleep sounded like heaven, and maybe if I kept singing a song in my mind, I wouldn’t think about Adrik before I fell asleep.

Look at that, I just made a fucking funny.

Chapter Five

Adrik

I gripped the phone when the words registered. “Mr. Hail, this is Saint, co-owner from Polished. Unfortunately, Ben is no longer available. Would you like to reschedule with someone else?”

Anger burned through my gut, but then fear overtook me, and I asked, “Is he good?” I refused to use his business name. I especially hated it when I had to use it in person with West. After our first meeting, I had known his real name when one of my men, the only one I trusted, had done a little digging.

“He is.”

Obviously, that was all he would give me. I wanted to know why. I wanted to know everything.

Through clenched teeth, I asked, “Will he be available for next weekend as usual?” I was foolish and thought West would want to see me a week early to make up for this missed time, but Saint’s next words told me just how pathetic I had been.

“Unfortunately, no, sorry. If you go to our website, we have more men online for you to view. I’ll just have to give you the password to access them.”

He was done with me.

Why?

What had changed?

I could fall for you. Those words had played in my mind over and over. Words I was not meant to hear.

“Nyet,” I clipped in my own language. Trying again, since this Saint could be a fool and have it wrong, I asked, “I would prefer Ben. Is he working with your company still?” West may have canceled all his other clients and moved from the business altogether. It was what I hoped for.

“He does, for now, but the hours he’d been doin’ aren’t suitin’ him any longer.”

Blyad’. “I’ll take any hour he has available.” I regretted those words as soon as they were out of my mouth. I sounded desperate.

“I’m sorry, but that won’t be possible. He’s already been booked out for the next month with his new hours.”

I did not believe him. I straightened in my chair in my fucking cold office as the anger flamed once more.

He did not want me.

Was there another?

“Will he be sleeping with these other clients?” I bit out.

“It’s no business of yours what my employee does,” Saint snarked back.

“Fine. Give me the access code, and I’ll take a look, then get back to you.” As soon as he gave the code to me, I hung up.

Even though I wrote the code down, I would not use it, because West had crawled under my skin and was stuck there.

“Dimitri,” I barked.

My door opened, and my true friend stepped through. “Da, Adrik?” He closed the door and came closer as I ripped off the piece of paper, screwed it up, and threw it into the bin beside my obnoxiously large desk.

In Russian, I said, “West. Keep an eye on him.”

He replied in the same, “What happened?”

“I do not know, but I am no longer his client.” I clenched my teeth as I stood and strode to the window. It had been only one week since West had stood here with me. He had seemed to want to be here. He had acted calm, sweet, and nervous. Like all the times before. What had changed?

Had someone said something?

Had someone upset him?

I did not like this change at all.

“I’ll get a few of my men to watch him.”

“Men you trust.”

“Of course.” He stopped beside me and leaned his shoulder into the window. I could
