Wolf's Pack (Wolves Next Door #3) - Auryn Hadley Page 0,75

of Ian's betas.

"Well, well," he drawled, doing his best to sound smug. "Looks like the spoiled brat sent his puppies to do his work again."

"Yeah, we actually came for the women," I taunted. "You know, because our pack actually has a few. But wait, you ended up with Karen, right? Our reject? How's that working out for you anyway?"

"Oh, I mated her," he told me. "She said it was nice to finally find a man with a real dick."

Elena scoffed and muttered something under her breath in Spanish about caverns. I had to shoot her a warning look because the last thing I wanted to do was laugh in this guy's face.

"Why are you here again?" I asked, stepping aside so the path to the door was clear and he knew he could leave.

Trent matched me on the other side, and the pair of us moved around him to join up with Seth, forming a line between the strange male and our mate. The problem was that Elena knew no fear. I saw Ashley try to tug her back again, but she wasn't about to budge. No, she looked like she was ready to lay into the man herself, and I knew she would if things went south.

"I came for reparations," Damon said. "Wolf's Run caused two of mine to get shot by humans."

"Can't make humans do much," I countered.

"Should find better places to run," Trent added.

"Two families!" Damon snapped. "Two. One man had a kid, and now what? Your pack is the one who risked mingling with humans. Your pack is the one who got caught on tape. It was your pack that suddenly made people take a second look at the wolves that had been there all along, and now my pack is dying!"

"Then protect your pack better!" Elena yelled, yanking her arm away from Ashley.

But Damon just pointed at Seth. "First you take my convert. Now you're getting my natural-borns killed. Wolf's Run owes Hidden Forest, and we will collect. One way or another, I'll make damned sure that all of you pay for this. I just figured a check would be easier than claiming the entire pack."

"What convert?" Elena asked, glancing over at Seth.

He grumbled under his breath. "Yeah, that guy who bit me?" And he tipped his head at Damon. "Told you it was some dick. Didn't approve then of how he treated women, and from the sounds of it, I still don't. Too bad for him, his plan backfired. I'm not dead, I'm his least favorite person's beta now."

"Shit," Damon laughed. "If you think a convert can keep up with a real wolf, boy, it says nothing good about this pack. Maybe I should just drop Ian already and weed out the weak ones before you all get any more real wolves killed. Can't say I'd mind being the king of this castle."

And then Elena did the last thing I'd ever have expected in my life. A litany of Spanish profanity began to fall from her lips and she bent over, grabbed the high heel from her foot and stormed at Damon like she was holding a dagger.

"Out!" she finally said. "Get out of my lobby, out of my community, and away from my mate. You hear me, little boy? Go back to where you came from or I will use this on you, and you do not wanna see what happens when a Latina mama resorts to her shoe!"

Damon's eyes went wide and he stepped back. From the look on his face, he had to be convinced that Elena was diseased, but I understood a little too well. My own mother had whacked me with a flip flop a few times, and my grandmother - the convert - was even worse. And yet, for some reason, I'd assumed that Elena was far too cultured to do anything like that.

But damn if it didn't look good on her. She didn't have to snarl or snap. There was no threat to shift and go after him as a wolf. Nope, she simply stormed at him, limping due to the difference in height, and kept ranting at the top of her lungs.

"You do not come into my house and treat me like that, and if you ever talk to my guys that way again I will wash your mouth out with soap. Do you hear me, pup? I will show you what it means when you mess with Wolf's Run."

"Fuck me," Damon breathed, spinning to push
