Winter Solstice in St. Nacho's (St. Nacho's #5) - Z.A. Maxfield Page 0,100
head and sluiced down my body. While it could erase the evidence of our lovemaking, the burst of happiness in my heart felt permanent, indelible, impossible to scrub away. Gratitude flooded me, for Thuong, for Santo Ignacio, for my family, Katie and Minerva and Muse, and for all the wonderful things that I’d never known I was missing that day I found the love of my life dying in the bathroom of a public library.
In the kitchen, he welcomed me with a wide, white smile. His brows furrowed. “Are you warm enough?”
I nodded, watching as he expertly turned a few eggs and some expertise into an omelet worthy of royalty. He slid it onto a plate and handed me a fork before opening the toaster oven.
“Here’s cheese toast.” He plated that and passed it over. Homemade sourdough laden with ham, bèchemel, and gruyère, his “toast” was a glancing nod to the croque monsieur he’d learned to make at Bêtise.
He eyed me before opening the fridge to get a bottle of sparkling cranberry juice.
“A little not-champagne for monsieur?”
“Sure.” He poured the drink into my crystal flutes and slid one my way. I lifted mine.
He held his up and cleared his throat. “You know I’m not very good with words. This year with you has been the best year of my life. I wish I’d known that something like this—like the thing that’s us—was in my future. I couldn’t even imagine such a thing before you came along. I have family, now. I have friends. I have the love of my life by my side. I never want to go back to how it was before, because I’m the luckiest guy on the planet. Thank you for everything.”
“No. Thank you, Thuong. I’m so grateful you came back into my life. None of this made any sense without you.”
He picked up his fork, and I picked up mine. We ate, holding hands.
You and me…
He was wrong about one thing. I was the luckiest guy on the planet. I would always be lucky no matter what happened as long as Thuong Harper and I could continue moving forward, side by side.

Acknowledgments
I could not have begun this book without a book bible for the St. Nacho’s Series, which Susie Selva painstakingly created. Susie wears all the hats on the editorial side, and has done a fantastic job taking the noodles that come out of my brain and turning them into a book I can be proud of.
Without Susie, this book would not have been possible.
Also, a great big thank you to the Shenanigangsters: Sue Brown, LE Franks, Morticia Knight, and Belinda McBride for being my partners in Daily Writer Shenanigans. For all you do to help foster an environment of commerce, cooperation, enthusiasm, and community, I love and thank you!

About the Author
Z. A. Maxfield is a fifth generation native of Los Angeles, although she now lives in the Inland Empire.
She started writing in 2007 on a dare from her children and never looked back. Pathologically disorganized, and perennially optimistic, she writes as much as she can, reads as much as she dares, and enjoys her time with family and friends.
If anyone asks her how a wife and mother of four manages to find time for a writing career, she’ll answer, “It’s amazing what you can do if you give up housework.”
