him at the end of your busy day. Would you make time for that kind of man?”

“Well, I don’t know. You’re referring to some pretend hero. How would I ever find such a man?” I teased.

He leaned forward until our faces were only a couple inches apart.

“Maybe all you have to do in order to find him is open your eyes and heart to the possibility that you might have already met him.” He leaned the couple inches and took my mouth in a slow, sensual kiss.

I sighed as he pulled away.

“You know you’re right.” I got up and made a show about going to my purse and pulling out my cell phone.

He frowned. “What are you doing?”

“Going to make a call.”

“To…?” His expression took on one of absolute horror. I could barely keep the ruse going without losing it.

“The man in my life. You just made me see what I’ve been missing all this time…” I dialed holding my breath.

“The hell you are!” Killian grumbled, made it to me, and snatched the phone out of my hand right as his pocket started buzzing.

He pulled his phone out and I smiled wide. The display said Wild Beauty and he smirked. “Real funny, Addy.” He locked his arms around me at the waist, tossing both our phones to the table nearest us. He started backing us toward the couch.

“I so had you going there. You have to admit it!” I giggled like a schoolgirl, but he kept tugging me toward his destination.

Killian shook his head and pressed his face to my neck where he laughed along with me. When he’d backed me into the couch, he wrapped his arms around me and twisted until he sat down. I followed, straddling his lap.

Once there, he kissed me. And he didn’t stop for a long, long time.

CHAPTER NINE

I woke on a jolt. Brutus was barking like crazy at the front door. My phone was buzzing on the coffee table and a ridiculously loud pounding came from the door.

“FBI! Open this door or we’re breaking it down!” I heard Jonah’s voice.

Killian shook off sleep where he lie on his back, me half on top of him wedged between the back of the couch and his comfy frame. We’d snuggled after our make out session and lied next to one another watching Season Two of the glass blowing show on Netflix. The projector screen was still down, the entire room dark save for the light from the message on the screen that said, “Are you still watching…”

I scrambled up and shoved my long ratty hair out of my face, wiping at my mouth in case there were any drool remnants. Killian did the same with his long locks as he pulled himself off the couch and headed to the door.

“Coming! Take a load off on the pounding, will ya?” he hollered, grabbing his dog’s collar. “Brutus, laundry room. Now!” He pointed.

The dog whinnied and ran over to me, then proceeded to sit on my feet.

“Brutus, hier.” Come, he said.

I petted the top of his head. “Go, baby, it’s okay. We’ll bring you out soon.” I dipped my head and kissed between his brows.

“Hier!” Killian used more force in his tone.

The dog got up and scampered to his dad. Killian shook his head and pointed at the laundry room. Brutus tucked his tail then went into his room-sized cage.

The pounding on the door started once again. “FBI! Open up!” Jonah yelled.

Eeek!

Killian secured Brutus then went to the entryway and opened the door. He stood face-to-face with one seriously angry FBI guy. “Where’s Addison?” he demanded.

“She’s right here? Relax, bro,” Killian admonished, stretching his hand out for Jonah and whoever was with him to enter.

Jonah entered but not before a blonde head popped out from behind him and slipped inside. Simone laid her eyes on me and came at me at a dead run like she had yesterday, only this time she had farther to go. “Addy!” she cried, her entire face mottled, red, and blotchy, tears tracking down her cheeks.

I opened my arms and took a step back when she plowed into me but held on as my sister hugged the air right from my lungs. Her body shook so hard and her nails dug into my shoulders. “Addy,” she sobbed.

I cupped the back of her head. “What in the world, Simone? Honey, talk to me.” I glanced over her shoulder to see Jonah and Ryan being escorted toward the kitchen area where Killian padded in
