turned on his heels.
I hurried and went into my loft and started checking my messages. There were several from Shay telling me to call and that I better have a great explanation for why she didn’t need to come in. What was I going to tell her? “Um, Shay, I’m the owner of the club we work at and, by the way, it’s run by a bunch of supes.” Nope, not a chance. She would think it’s April Fool’s Day for sure. Honesty probably wasn’t the best policy at the moment. So I dialed her number and hoped something came to mind before she picked up.
“You have some explaining to do!” No hello, just explaining.
“Good afternoon to you too.”
“Don’t patronize me. What happened last night? I got a call from Mindy asking if I was sick.” Shay was pissed. She never wanted to give up a reason to make money if she didn’t have to.
“Well, for starters, Declan came in and I didn’t want you in the middle of all the drama.” Yeah, that was good. Put it off on Declan.
“Oh, Sloane, you shouldn’t torture yourself like that. When are you going to let all that go?” Wow, she was on a roll, but little did she know that I really did let it all go. In fact, I chose Viktor.
“I did, Shay. I chose Viktor. Declan said he wanted me back and I told him no way in hell. It’s done.” Although, I didn’t think it would ever truly be done.
“Oh, really? I always miss the good stuff!” She stressed each word.
“I have to get ready, so I will see you there tonight, right?” I asked, as if I really had to.
“Naw, I think I’m going to lounge around here so I can miss more juicy drama.” Shay was laughing now. “Yes, you will see me.”
“Alright, love you, bye.” I ended the call and was walking into my bedroom area when I heard Viktor.
“Love you?” Viktor had a questioned look in his eyes.
“Shay,” was the only answer he would get.
I started looking through the closet for tonight’s apparel as he came and lay down on my bed. I laid my leather pants and tube top on the bed and bent over to give him a quick kiss. I was trying my best to not ask about the creepy guy in the hallway.
“If you see him around, don’t allow him in here. I don’t trust him,” Viktor said, as if he could read my mind.
“I didn’t say anything,” I replied.
“No, but I know that quizzical look you get.”
“Fine, who is he?” I asked as I snuggled up close to him.
“His name is Simon, and if he’s here it’s because he knows something.” Now Viktor had me scared.
“But how?”
“Every time you use your powers, it sends out a sort of beacon,” explained Viktor.
“So as long as I don’t channel anything, I am OK, right?” I hope I didn’t look too freaked out.
“Right, as long as they don’t provoke you.” He shot me a smile.
He knew as well as I did that something very little would provoke me. All someone had to do was hurt someone I loved, which were the people who worked at the club. Three people in particular, Shay being at the top of the list.
“How are we going to do that?” I asked.
“As much as I am going to hate this idea, I have no choice. I need to get with Declan.” You could imagine my surprise.
“We don’t know how to contact him,” I said, very confused.
“Let me handle that. You just work on that temper.” He kissed me sweetly and hugged me close. “I won’t let them get to you.”
Whoever was looking for me was in for a rude awakening if they thought I would give in without a fight, especially if they hurt anyone.
They had yet to know my wrath.
Chapter 12
Viktor left me to find Declan and let him know what was going on. I was glad someone knew, because I was still confused. I’d recently learned I was a witch, but I held angel and demon blood as well. So that made me part of some stupid prophecy and I was meant to be with someone else, or something else. Laying there on my bed, I couldn’t help but wish things were like they were before I knew anything. I had to do something before I went crazy here waiting for someone to call or walk through that door. So I got creative.
I found myself
