me,” they sang together, “what are the dragons that’re standing in your way? And if your clock was stuck at a minute-to-midnight, would you dance the night away?” She’d never heard that line quite that way before, maybe because she’d never wanted the clock to just stop like she did at that moment.

“Oh, tell me where would you go to,” he sang to her as he put his fingers onto her temple and traced them down the side of her face, “and what would you be, if real gave way to visions and you could do anything?”

“Only when I dream,” she sang and she let herself be held by the words and his gentle touch, “I can do anything. I can fly. I can soar. The limits would be no more…”

“Only when I dream,” he sang, picking up the melody as he picked up her hand and kissed it, “when it’s just you and me. So baby, close your eyes.”

“Oh, baby, close your eyes,” she sang back to him as she let her eyes fall closed in perfect trust and peace.

“… and just dream.”

She put her head back for a second as the lyrics faded. “Man, I love that song.”

“I love you,” he whispered, but it was so matter-of-fact, it surprised her.

When she opened her eyes, she found his watching her as she now realized they did so often. She knew in her heart it was as true for her as it obviously was to him. “I know.”

Gently his hand slipped to the side of her face before drifting to the back of her neck. His thumb traced over her face, and she laid her head into it and closed her eyes. “This is the best dream ever,” she said, melting into his touch.

“Absolutely.”

“Oh, and just for the record,” she said, opening her eyes to watch him love her, “I’m really glad you said something.”

He laughed softly at that. “Me too. Definitely glad I said something.”

With that, he leaned toward her and thus, forever began.

Chapter 1

Sunday morning Taylor Grayson awoke, blinked twice at the white and yellow light pouring through her window, and puzzled at the strange memories floating through her mind. She wasn’t sure if they were real or just imagined at first. In fact, they felt far more like a dream than anything.

A slow almost-confused sigh left her as she sorted through all of it—the Valentine’s Dance, a fight on the sidewalk that ended in a kiss that still stole her breath and left her stunned speechless, Greg walking away, meeting him at the student center chapel... She rubbed her eyes. No. It was real. It was definitely all real.

She pulled halfway up and reached for her phone. As overwhelming as it all was for her, she was sure it was even more so for him.

Him.

Greg.

Greg Everett.

Her best friend in the whole world until last night when he had forever flip-turned everything between them with that scorching-hot kiss. She cleared her throat at the memory and blew out another breath. It still didn’t take much to feel that one. Thinking through it all, she tried to figure out what she should say to him and how. Should she call?

One look at the clock said, no probably not. It was barely eight, and she, of all people, knew he was living on fumes and little else. Still, she didn’t want him to have to make the first move, and she definitely didn’t want things to be awkward when they saw each other next.

It was like her heart was doing somersaults as she brushed the hair back out of her eyes and soaked it all in, feeling every bit of the whole night down to her toes. He had told her he loved her. He’d actually said the words out loud. And not in a friend-kind-of-way either. Like, love-love. Like real love. The official kind.

The crazy thing was, as much as she should have been freaked out by that, what it mostly felt like was falling into a huge pile of warm feathers. Safe. Protected. Totally and completely loved.

She squealed softly as she tried to think of what to text him. It was important to her to get this right.

“Hm.” Brushing the hair out of her eyes again, she drew up her knees and set her thumbs on the little keyboard. Life had never felt so
