Wexxon the Great Alien Warrior - Juno Wells Page 0,63

me.”

“Just guessing, but does he happen to be one of the richest men on Xelxar?”

“No richer than your mate.” Palqeet grinned. “Although mine is quite a bit looser with his money.”

She waved around the building, as if the wedding venue was meant to emphasize her point. And as I stared up at the ceilings, the same see-through material as the bar I liked in town, I idly wondered how much such a building even cost on Xelxar. I then wondered about the art pieces, too, each one installed near the building’s windows, the painted pictures moving on a loop, like small, exquisite films inside each frame.

“Do you think I can get Wexxon to marry me again?” I mused. “Because I think I’m in love with your venue.”

“Uh, of course you can get him to marry you again.” Palqeet chuckled as she nodded down toward my stomach. “Especially since you two are already moving onto baby number two—”

“…What?” I shook my head as I stared back at my friend. “Oh. No. I’m not pregnant. I would know if I was—”

“You would know the first time, because of all the changes happening in your body,” Palqeet slowly explained. “But the second time can come as a complete surprise. Your body’s already hospitable to a child, so the sensations aren’t as novel—”

“Palqeet!” I shouted her name before I covered my mouth with the back of my hand. “Oh my God! I’m sorry! If I would’ve known, I would’ve told you beforehand. We shouldn’t be having this kind of moment at your wedding. This is supposed to be your big day—”

“This is going to be my big day.” Palqeet chuckled before she bent to give me a kiss on the cheek. “Just be sure to keep the pregnancy thing under wraps, okay?”

“But how am I supposed to keep it under wraps if other people can tell—”

“You’ll find a way!” Palqeet offered me a bright smile before she moved right past me, heading back toward the front door as she greeted more guests.

God.

Oh my God.

I was pregnant with my second child?

I brought a hand down to my abdomen, unable to keep myself from smiling like a complete idiot.

Wait.

Did that mean that everyone at the castle already knew? Did Aldvirion already know?

Did Wexxon already know?

“Have you already prepared your speech for the wedding, my love?” Wexxon asked as he walked into the building, Rexxon right by his side. “Palqeet just accosted me by the door and wanted me to make sure.”

Wexxon then spared a look back at our friend before he looked over at me again. “If you forgot to prepare a speech, I think it might be in our best interest to take the time to write one out. I…don’t want to alarm you, but even though Palqeet hasn’t fought in the arena in years, I think I saw her reach for a sword when the caterer told her they wouldn’t be able to serve her favorite dessert.”

“Swords are dangerous,” Rexxon quietly added to the conversation with a serious look on his small face. “Aldvirion says I can’t have a sword until I’m a few years older.”

“He’s right.” I nodded down at my son. “You should listen to Aldvirion about weapons. He’s had to help your dad recover after a lot of battles. He knows what he’s talking about—”

“Ah! There he is! There’s my little pseudo-nephew!” Palqeet practically screeched when she spotted Rexxon, soon scooping him up into her arms. “You’re coming with me. You’re going to look so cute in the pictures. And after pictures, you’re going to be my little taste tester for dessert.”

“Yay!” Rexxon cheered, happily settling against Palqeet’s chest, the both of them disappearing as Palqeet walked down another hall of her huge venue.

And as I watched them go, I felt my eyes start to well with tears, my fingers soon wiping them away from my cheeks.

“You’re crying?” Wexxon’s voice was lined with concern. “What’s wrong, my love?”

“Nothing’s wrong, Wexxon.” I let out a small laugh, my tears still falling. “It’s just…don’t you see it? Everything’s perfect. Our son has so many people who love him, it’s like…he’s getting all the love and attention we had to miss out on because of what happened to our parents.”

I sniffled before I kept going. “I don’t know. I never thought things could be this perfect, Wexxon. I never…I never in a million years thought I’d ever get to live inside my own fairytale.”

“What’s a fairytale?” Wexxon asked, his hands moving down to my waist as he pulled me in closer. “Could you define it for me?”

“Yes.” I smiled up at him before I motioned for him to lean his head toward mine, soon pressing a soft kiss against his lips. “It’s my life with you. It’s my life with Rexxon. It’s my life with our other child, too. The one that Palqeet just let me know that I’m carrying—”

“I know I should’ve been the first to tell you,” Wexxon cut me off as he sighed. “But Aldvirion said it was optimal to wait just a few more weeks—”

“We can talk about it after the wedding.” I chuckled before I bent to kiss him again. “Besides, this is Palqeet’s day. And if we don’t write that speech, I might be heading to the arena a lot faster than I think.”

Wexxon lightly chuckled at my joke, too, his eyes meeting mine, the connection between us surging forward, everything feeling as perfect as it could’ve ever been.

And in that moment, I couldn’t have been more thankful to Marsha for sending me off to Sector C, to whatever experiment had been running in Sector D, to all the events in my life, both tragic and trivial, that led me to exactly where I was supposed to be.

That led me to the man I was supposed to be with for the rest of my life.
