his cum still spilling inside me. “That is something we will find out together. But even if I cannot, we can always have one of the other Xelxar females carry our child. Either way, you will still be its mother.”

But I don’t want a Xelxar female carrying my child.

I quickly blinked the thought away, realizing how insane it sounded in my head.

Of course I didn’t want a Xelxar female carrying my child. Because I didn’t want anyone involved in carrying a child with Wexxon, at all.

He and I weren’t going to have a future together, because I was going to escape at the first chance I got. As soon as he went to sleep tonight, I was going to try my luck at figuring out the castle, at figuring out if they had anything like spaceships or even time travel available, any source of technology that I could have access to on my own.

Anything that would help me get the hell out of here before it was too late.

Chapter Five

Wexxon

I would’ve mated with Rachel Waters for a thousand years.

It was only her own tiredness that brought about the end to it. Besides, it was clear from the way she looked up at me as I finished inside her that she was used to males who only came once, not twice or thrice like the Xelxar males so often did. And because I didn’t want to hurt her, I let her have that illusion for the night, deciding to let her know the truth some other time.

When she was sound asleep, I slipped out of the master bedroom and headed back down one of the darkened halls. The castle had been built like this to confuse intruders, making them think that there was nothing important down these chambers, that everything alive and meaningful was all along the other side of the structure. And now more than ever, I was thankful for the ruse, happy with the thought of Rachel being safe and hidden away from everyone else.

By the time I reached one of the main rooms, my eyes immediately locked with Aldvirion’s own. And the closer I got to my oldest friend, the more I was able to make out the wide smile on his expression.

“That sounded like some consummation.” Aldvirion’s smile quickly faded into his typical serious look as I now stood right in front of him. “I swear to the Gods, Wexxon, it was a waste of my time alerting everyone to your marriage. It was clear from the way she screamed for you.”

“It could not be helped,” I smirked as I replied. “I’ll be sure to expect the same from you, when you finally take a wife of your own.”

“Does your exotic bride know about the connection?” Aldvirion asked. “Although I assume it won’t matter much for now. She won’t be able to feel it for some time.”

The connection.

Right.

It was something that’d completely slipped my mind, seeming entirely unimportant as I mated with my wife. The connection was an unexplainable force that would often bind two mates together on Xelxar, over time, causing them to pine for one another, to welcome one another in each other’s arms even after decades of separation. Some even said that when the connection was strong enough, and after several children and several years, the partners could feel each other through the connection, too, almost like they could pinpoint each other on a map with their eyes closed.

But since Rachel wasn’t from Xelxar, I assumed that the connection would never come into play between us. And while I would surely miss out on such an old tradition, I wasn’t willing to trade a minute of being with Rachel for an inexplicable Xelxar custom.

“No,” I admitted. “I don’t think she knows. I don’t even think Grindeem mentioned it during the ceremony.”

“Well, to be fair to Grindeem, I’m sure he isn’t accustomed to having to perform marriages in the middle of the night with an exotic partner involved,” Aldvirion replied. “He shouldn’t be punished for the oversight.”

“I would never threaten or punish Grindeem for something so small.”

“And that is why you are our greatest warrior.” Aldvirion smiled. “So, what brings you out of your marriage bed so early? Or rather, so late?”

“…Have you heard any word from Reddin?” I asked, keeping my voice low.

And Aldvirion’s cheer seemed to drain from his expression. “Wexxon, you know that I do not search for Reddin’s word. I do not wish to see him, ever again. He is a
