honest with you. But it’s a good kind of sore. Don’t you think?”

“I think you nearly killed me.” She wrapped her arms around his shoulders as he held her. “I have never, not since I learned about sex, enjoyed something so profoundly as I did this morning. If we do that very often, I’m sure I’ll be an old, yet happy man in a comatose state.”

She was still laughing when she stepped into the shower stall and had hot water hit her body. Christ, she was sore everywhere. Smiling, she tenderly washed up, thinking he was right. If they had sex like this every day, she’d be dead as well.

Wats and Rayne rode up to the prison with his dad. Dad had mentioned that he wanted to take them out to dinner after this was finished, and it made more sense for them to ride together. It wasn’t going to be a good thing, what they were doing today, but it would be over. The aunts having been found guilty of murder, as well as a long list of other crimes, ones he never knew about. Wats wasn’t looking forward to seeing his mom, nor hearing her drivel about how she’d done nothing wrong and they should get her out. It wasn’t going to happen.

The prison was ready for them when they arrived. Abby had worn a blood-red dress, much like the one his mother had worn to Aunt Holly’s funeral. When he looked at the other two, he could see they’d taken their cues from Abby and wore similar dresses. He thought it was the funniest thing he could have seen. He loved the three of them to pieces for doing this.

Wats was sure that Mars didn’t want to be there. He had to know that they were going to take potshots at him about his being a bastard son. How he wasn’t worth the time of day, and how everything bad that had happened in their lives would be put squarely on his shoulders. However, looking at him right now, he thought Mars wasn’t going to take it any more than the others were. He wanted to see them all, Mars and his uncles, get the kind of freedom they deserved.

His mother was the first person in the room. Of course, nothing was to her liking, and she tried very hard to get someone to take the chains off her wrists and ankles. The guards didn’t even blink when she started jerking the chains from them and cursing. Wats couldn’t help it. He laughed.

“What the fuck do you think is so funny? Finding your mother chained up like a dog? Watson, get your ass over here and make them release me.” He asked her if she wanted to hug him. “If that will get your ass in gear, then sure, why the fuck not? I know you studied law. Make them let me go.”

“I’m a doctor, not an attorney. Even if I was one, I’d gladly pay them to keep you hogtied where you are.” She cursed at him again. “You don’t know shit about me, do you, Tina?”

“You’re to give me the respect that I deserve, or so help me, I’m going to teach you a few lessons when I get out of here. And I will, by God, even if your father needs to sell off everything we own for me to get out.” Dad laughed, and so did Rayne. “Laugh it up, bitch. I don’t know what part you’re playing in this little circus going on around here, but you’ll regret having any kind of relationship with my husband. Not that I want him, but if I can’t have him, no one can. Do you hear that, Wesley? I’m going to— What are you wearing? Are those blue jeans? Christ, I’m going to have to start from scratch with you, aren’t I? You don’t get too comfortable in those nasty things, Wesley Wilkerson. As soon as I’m free, I’m going to—”

“Oh, will you shut the fuck up? Christ love a duck, you do go on, don’t you?” Mother looked at Rayne and told her to keep her slutty mouth shut. “My slutty mouth? Honey, no one has anything on your mouth. I heard that you’ve sucked off every male within a ten-mile radius of the little town we live in. And I’m not a slut, you fucking moron. I’m Wat’s wife. I’m so glad I never got to meet you before all this went down.
