Van Helsing Damned (Immortal Hunters MC #2) - Helen Scott

Dragon

My hand twists the throttle on my bike harder as I make it around another turn. The bullet wounds that scatter my body ache with each move, each vibration of my bike, and I’m sure I’ve left behind a trail of blood throughout the city, but none of that matters. We just have to find Dani.

Before her trail grows cold.

Behind me, I hear the roar of the others’ bikes. Striker stayed behind. Now that we knew the truth about that slimy bastard, Prez, Striker had replaced him. Back at the base, Stiker is informing the other Immortal Hunters that we’ve been betrayed. He will be the new Prez, temporarily, until the official ceremony. Until then, passwords are being changed and vital information hidden behind new firewalls. It’s killing him not to be here, but we all recognize that without our MC at our backs, we’ll be weak.

We won’t have the resources to find and protect Dani.

Or anyone. And as much as we might scare a lot of people, the world needs us to keep them safe from the monsters of the world.

The gun at my back suddenly heats up, and I stiffen. I make a right at random, and I’m sure the guys are wondering where the hell I’m going. We’ve been searching the city for any signs of Dani and the traitor, or anyone who might know where the Prez has taken Dani. We were checking out old hideouts and places connected to the traitor in any way. But we’ve run out of places to search, so we’ve just been driving around, hoping to get lucky.

But now, now I feel like I know which direction to take. Even though there’s no logical reason for my sudden sense of certainty, I hope the guys have enough faith to roll with my instincts.

The Chosen Weapon heats again, and I make another turn and another.

The mic in my ear buzzes. “What are we doing?” Phoenix asks, confusion in his voice.

I don’t know what to say. The gun I’d taken from the unknown bikers a short time ago is my Chosen Weapon, even though the damn things are rare. I’m not going to question why it came into my hands. I don’t know exactly how it works. In fact, I know almost nothing about them, but some instinct is telling me to listen to it.

We end up on a road leading out of town.

“Dragon?” Crash sounds even more worried than my brother had been.

“Just…trust me. Okay?”

I hear a couple of grunts in acknowledgment.

Okay, magical weapon, don’t lead me wrong. Don’t make me look like an asshole.

The road takes us into the woods that surround our city, and we speed faster and faster with the road stretching out in front of us. Suddenly, the weapon heats, and I slow until I stop. The guys stop behind me too, and I know they’re losing faith in me. But this feels right.

I start again, really slowly, and then I see something in the woods that catches my eye. Leaving the main road, we drive slowly down a beat-up dirt path that almost looks like nothing at all. The trees crowd in closer and closer around us and above us, cloaking the path in shadows.

We turn a corner, and all our bikes stop.

In the path, Dani is walking. She’s covered in blood. So much blood that it seems like she bathed in it. She’s limping, not even walking a straight line. Like she’s about to crash at any moment. And seeing her like this, it’s like a dream and a nightmare coming true at the same time.

How much of that blood is hers?

I cut the engine, climb off, and rush toward her.

Her blue eyes lock onto my face, and there’s disbelief in their depths before my arms wrap around her.

She holds herself stiffly. “I-is it really you?”

I nod, taking a second to swallow around the lump in my throat. “You bet, sweet tits.”

It’s like my asshole nickname for her is all she needs to hear. Her knees give out and I sweep her up into my arms. Her head lolls back, and she’s breathing hard as I carry her back to the guys.

But the fact that she’s breathing at all? I’ll count that as a win.

Crash and Phoenix are off their bikes, staring in shock. And I know they’re wondering the same thing I am. How did she get here? And is she okay? At least…physically?

Phoenix is the first one to speak. “If we keep going down this
