The Vampire's Surprise - Stormy Glenn Page 0,26

"No."

Okay then.

"Your rajaaka is a bit feisty as well."

Dmitri was starting to understand that, but again, he didn't believe that was a bad thing. "He's going to need to be strong to be my rajaaka. Our tribe isn't quite as accepting as yours is."

That was kind of an understatement. Granted, things were getting better, but Prince Marcus had almost not claimed his rajaaka because he feared what would happen if he brought a human home. The fact that Charlie had been turned into a vampire made things a whole lot easier. Quinn wouldn't have that.

"I'm worried about Quinn's connection to the rogues and what it might mean," he said. "I really feel like they are after him for some reason, but I can't figure out what that reason is."

"What do you know of his mother?" Louis asked.

"Nothing."

"Does she belong to one of the tribes or is she a rogue, too?"

Dmitri shook his head. "Quinn said she's a rogue, but I just don't know. I'll have to ask him to be sure." That was one of the questions he needed Quinn to answer for him. It was one of many. "I only met Quinn this afternoon. I haven't even had a chance to claim him yet."

"I admire your restraint, my friend."

Dmitri was kind of impressed himself. The burning desire to claim Quinn was there, but it was tempered by his overwhelming need to make sure Quinn and the kids were protected.

"It should take your prince at least two hours to get here. Unless you plan on Quinn telling his story twice, you should probably wait until we are all together. That should give you a couple of hours before the shit hits the fan. I could have some food delivered to the guest suite and give you two a little time alone. Claiming him before all of this starts might not be a bad idea."

It was actually a pretty good idea. If Quinn had the security of knowing he had a mate to protect him, he might be more willing to tell what he knew. It would also settle Dmitri's tense nerves to have the bond between them fully in place. He felt as if he was about to fracture.

"The kids will need some blood."

Louis nodded. "I'll have it delivered along with some food."

"I'd appreciate it."

Louis patted him on the shoulder. "While you're bonding with your rajaaka, I'll look into who is in charge of distribution of the synthetic blood. Maybe I'll have some answers by the time we all meet up."

"It would be really great to have some answers because there are way too many questions."

Chapter Ten

Quinn breathed a sigh of relief as he watched sleep overtake Robby. Arthur had been asleep for ages and Hannah was still with Dmitri. Quinn really hoped they arrived soon. Not only did he need to get Hannah lay down, but he was in an unfamiliar place that screamed danger. At this point, Dmitri as his only safe haven.

And when the fuck did that happen? When did a vampire become his port in the storm?

"I'm losing my mind," he murmured to himself.

He tensed when he heard the door in the outer room open. He quickly walked to the bedroom door and looked out into the hallway. When he didn't see anyone, he padded down the narrow passage to the living room.

"Hey," he said in a low voice when he saw Dmitri standing there.

"Hey," Dmitri replied.

"Where's Etienne?"

"He went with Louis to make some arrangements for our meeting."

"Oh."

"Do you have a spot made up for the little one?" Dmitri gestured to the sleeping child in his arms.

"Yeah." Quinn nodded his head toward the room where he'd laid Robby and Arthur down. "There's a bed made up back here."

"Show me."

Quinn turned and then led the way back down the hallway. When he reached the room where Robby and Arthur were, he paused and waited. Dmitri walked past him into the room and then over to the bed.

Quinn was surprised by the gentleness the man used as he tucked Hannah under the covers. He hadn't expected it out of the powerful vampire.

After he tucked the blankets around Hannah, Dmitri brushed the hair back from her face and then turned and walked back to the doorway. He stepped out into the hallway and pulled the door almost all of the way closed.

"Don't worry," he said. "I'll hear them if they wake up."

Quinn nodded his acknowledgement of that statement.

"Are you hungry?" Dmitri asked as they walked back toward the living
