Upside Down (Breaking the Rules #3) - A.M. Madden Page 0,82

off the side of the house, far away from the other bedrooms. Mom explained my loud music was what had forced her to move me across the house to the opposite corner. At the time, I suspected it had more to do with giving me all the privacy I needed as I figured things out. And while growing up, and even more so after I came home and transferred to the local college, it had been my haven.

But now, it would be where I needed to forget my past and remember my future.

Once I opened the door and flipped on the lights, Cooper’s attention scanned the massive room. It was big enough for a living area with a couch, large TV, and gaming system. The space looked just as it had when I was a teenager. Even from where we stood, he could see into the en suite bathroom enough to know it was in no way modest. But it was the king-size bed that he crossed the room to further inspect.

“You do know this isn’t normal for a teenager?” he asked without looking at me.

Shrugging, I said, “Mom spoiled me a bit growing up.”

He turned and folded his arms. “I’d say.”

“She never apologized for that. Those who loved her knew it had to do with being both mother and father to me. But as much as she denied me nothing, she also ruled with an iron fist when it came to learning respect and compassion and generosity. Every birthday gift I got was donated to the children’s hospital. Every Christmas morning was spent feeding those who didn’t have a place to go in our church basement.”

Cooper’s smug expression softened. “That’s one of my favorite things about you.” He closed the distance and wrapped his arms around my waist, kissing me softly. It took a mere second for me to deepen the kiss, taking over by cupping his face to manipulate my assault on his mouth.

It was Cooper who broke away first, staring at me in a strange way. “You sure you’re okay?”

“I’m more than okay,” I responded while placing his hand over my hardening dick. Pressing it firmly enough for the effects to be felt beneath his palm, I kissed his neck and edged my lips toward his ear. “I know we haven’t taken things to the next level, but tonight I want to.” Expectedly, Cooper snapped his head up and away from my face. “It’s not what you think. I want you to take me.” I needed that. I needed him tonight more than ever.

“Here? With your mom in the house.”

“Yes. She’s not a snowflake, Cooper. She’s probably the coolest mom you’ll ever meet.”

“I already know that. But still… are you sure you want to do that here and not in your apartment?”

“Yes. I’m sure.” Staring deep into his hazel eyes, I voiced what I’d been wanting to for weeks. When a tightness altered his expression, I asked, “What?”

“Have you ever… been with a guy in here in that way?”

“No. Never.” Waiting for that to register, I held the back of his head, forcing his focus to link with mine. “I need you to fuck me in my room, Cooper.”

Chapter Twenty-Eight

Cooper

That admission spiked my heart rate for two reasons. It wasn’t just lust that created the pounding behind my chest wall. It was also nerves. The next level… a carrot that he’d dangled for weeks he now suggested as casually as saying, “Let’s go for a drive.” Night after night, I’d listened as he claimed once we walked through that door there would be no turning back… but while also promising I wouldn’t want to.

Ricky had always been vocal regarding the physical pleasures that came from giving and receiving. Always mentally preparing me for both scenarios while also admitting that words couldn’t do that pleasure justice. What he never did touch on were the emotions that could come. And guessing from the emotions that had already grown within me by becoming intimate in every other way imaginable, I guessed tonight would transport me from falling in love with Ricky to hurtling over a cliff without a parachute.

Undeterred by my hesitancy, he resumed kissing my neck while slipping his hands beneath my T-shirt. Feeling the pads of his fingers skimming every ridge and bump of my abdomen, as his mouth sucked below my ear, threw any nervousness out the window.

Impatiently, I stepped away to grip the fabric on my back and pull it over my head. His blue eyes
