but they were all up and already dressed, ready to get picked up by their parents in a few hours.

Our night was different, but not in a bad way.

Never had I imagined sweet and innocent Rooney would enjoy getting fucked roughly, but I was glad she did.

We were eating while standing up since all the kids occupied the whole table, and every once in a while, Rooney leaned against me and I pressed a kiss to her head to show her some affection too.

Things were going great between us, even without ever talking about what we were, or what we wanted to be.

I guess it wasn’t the right time to talk about it, but I knew that I wanted to keep her around.

Maybe we didn’t need to talk about it.

It was perfect the way it was.

I was happy, Rooney was happy, and most importantly, Ira was too.

“Wells?” Bethy called out with her hand raised as if she was in school and had to ask for permission to talk.

I looked at her, but as I moved my gaze to Sia sitting next to her, I knew what she wanted to tell me.

“Oh, sweetheart,” Rooney said, putting her plate down on the counter and walking over to her.

I watched her pick Sia up as she was silently crying.

“She said she misses her mommy,” Bethy told Rooney.

“Mommy’s coming to pick you up in just an hour, sweetie, okay?” she said, rubbing Sia’s back and trying to cheer her up.

Sia hiccupped as she tried to keep in her cries inside, but when she realized it was okay to cry, she hugged Rooney tightly and let all her emotions run free.

When she stopped next to me, I brushed along the back of Sia’s head to calm her, not able to stop thinking about how great of a mother Rooney would be.

Shit.

Not now, man. You’re too old to have another kid, and she’s too young to have her first.

“Should we call your mommy and see if she can come pick you up earlier?” I asked, getting a quick nod from her.

“All right. Let’s call her together.”

Rooney let me take her so she could watch the other kids, and for a split second, it felt as if we ran a daycare.

“Sit right here,” I told Sia as I sat her down on the counter, and I grabbed my phone to call Frieda, her mother.

“Do you wanna talk to her?” I asked, brushing back a strand of her blonde hair.

She shook her head but kept her eyes on my phone.

Only a few seconds of ringing, Frieda picked up.

“Is everything okay?” were her first words.

“Hey, yes. Sia’s been asking for you. Think she’s a little homesick,” I told her, looking into Sia’s sad face.

A sigh escaped Frieda, but not an annoyed one.

“Well, at least she made it through the night, hm? I’ll pick her up in ten,” she said.

“All right. See you then.”

We hung up and I smiled at Sia. “Your mommy’s coming in ten minutes. Do you wanna go play a little until she’s here?” I asked.

“I can play with her.”

As sweet as Bethy was, she had to stop creeping up on me like that.

“Sound good?” I asked Sia, and she nodded, trusting Bethy.

I lifted her from the counter and let them walk together to the living room where they sat down at Ira’s little table where he often drew and painted.

I moved my gaze to Rooney who was looking at me with a smile, and I gave her quick nod to let her know everything was okay.

As much as I loved seeing Ira all happy and enjoying being with his friends, I was ready to see them all leave so I had time for my son and Rooney again.

Later in the afternoon, my mother and George decided to come by and give Ira his birthday present.

I told them to not come by on his birthday, as we would have all the kids over and there wouldn’t be much time to sit down and have a cup of coffee.

“Look, Ira. George and I got you a little something,” Mom said, holding out a present for him to take.

“What is it?” Ira asked, sounding as if he had enough of presents since yesterday.

He got spoiled with so many amazing gifts, but I could proudly say that the Hulk costume he was wearing again was definitely his favorite.

Well, that and Rooney’s painting we already hung up in his room.

“Well, open it up and find out,” Mom said.

We watched Ira rip
