longer, I might fall back asleep.”

I didn’t want that, because I knew I’d do the same. “I’ll be right back,” I told him, kissing his lips once more before getting out of bed and grabbing all my things to head upstairs.

A low chuckle came from him. “See you later,” he said in a sexy growl, and after giving him a sweet but shy smile, I walked out of his apartment to get upstairs.

I took a deep breath as I entered my apartment, and just like she had been doing lately, Evie surprised me by being awake already.

The wide grin on her face meant there were thousands of thoughts about Wells and me spending the night together on her mind, but I had to disappoint her.

“We kissed, that’s all,” I said to her as I walked into my bedroom to let the clothes I wore last night fall onto the bed.

“That’s all? Girl, your face tells a whole other story.”

Evie stood in the doorway with her arms crossed and her brows raised. “What happened?”

“We kissed, Evie. We made out. Heavily. And I really liked it.”

No chance to hide that from her.

“Shit, and he’s forty-two. Maybe I should try older men sometime. You didn’t turn bright red when you told me about you and AJ making out. Heavily.”

“Maybe because I didn’t like it as much as I did last night,” I murmured.

“Uh-huh,” she voiced, keeping her grin in place. “Then why are you here this early?”

“I’m just gonna take a shower and head downstairs again. We’re gonna have breakfast and then head into town,” I told her, smiling.

“You’re actually dating him. And I always thought I’d be the one to actually start dating first.”

I laughed and shook my head. “I don’t think that’s ever going to happen, Evie. You love being single, and you don’t want kids or marriage in the future anyway.”

She shrugged. “True. But I guess I never imagined you to actually date someone seriously.”

Me neither.

At least not while still in college.

“Would you like to pick out an outfit for me?”

That wasn’t even a question. She already walked over to my dresser and started to pick out anything she thought looked good.

I left her to it and went to take a quick shower, and when I got out, I saw the clothes she picked laid out on the bed.

Looked like a skirt and long-sleeved turtleneck shirt.

I could work with that, though, I would’ve gone for a pair of black pants.

But since I always wore those, I figured changing it up a little wouldn’t hurt.

“How was the party last night?” I asked her as she walked back into my room while I got dressed right in front of her.

We were like sisters, and seeing each other naked was never a big deal.

Turned out some girls found it weird though, as Evie and I were the only two changing without trying to hide from the other girls in the changing room at school.

Maybe that changed now though.

“Crazy. I didn’t know Cayla had a boyfriend, so that was fun to watch. Other than that, it was the usual shenanigans. Too much alcohol and the music was far too loud.”

“Did you leave early that you’re up already?” I asked, buttoning up the skirt in the front.

It was a pretty, burnt orange and velvety skirt I bought a while back but never wore.

Perfect for fall and fitting with the gray turtleneck on top.

“Kinda. AJ and Jonathan drove me back because they had to be somewhere.”

I nodded, turning around and looking into the mirror to see how I looked.

“Do you like it?” she asked, letting her eyes wander down my body.

I nodded and picked at the skirt a little to adjust it.

“I think it looks nice. What shoes should I wear?”

Evie puckered her lips and thought about it for a while before walking out of my room.

I followed her after grabbing my backpack which I often used instead of a purse, then followed Evie to the front door where we kept all our shoes.

“How about these?” she asked, holding up a pair of light gray sneakers.

“Haven’t worn those in a while, but sure.”

I put them on and checked myself out one last time before turning to Evie and hugging her tight.

“Thank you. I’ll see you soon. Probably tomorrow,” I said, smiling at her.

“Have fun! And remember you don’t take the pill!”

I rolled my eyes but had to laugh at her comment.

As I reached Wells’s apartment, I knocked and then let myself in to see if he
