No dramas.”

I sat down on the couch and pulled the blanket over my legs to stay warm.

“Not sure I know movies outside of those two genres,” she said, walking back to me with the menu for all the places we could order takeout from.

“Then maybe it’s time to change that,” I told her. “And I’m craving sushi.”

As much as my heart was aching for Wells and Ira, this girls night would make me think of other things and maybe even lock my decision into place so it wouldn’t take more than two days until I could knock on Well’s door and tell him exactly what I wanted from him.

His love, and in exchange, he’d get mine.

Chapter Thirty-Seven

Wells

“If you’re gonna propose another night at the bar, I won’t let you in,” I said to Grant as he stood in front of my door with Benny holding his hand.

“Still mad about that? Jesus, man. You could’ve taken part in that conversation.”

Never.

Not with two women I already forgot about.

“Can I play with Ira?” Benny asked, and if it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have let them in.

“Of course, Benny. Ira’s in his room playing,” I told him, stepping aside so he could run inside.

“Shoes, Ben!” Grant called out, and he stopped in the middle of the hallway to take off his shoes and then run into Ira’s room.

Ira hadn’t been feeling well since last night, but as today was Sunday, he had been recovering from feeling tired and sick all day long.

I heard them giggle as they saw each other, wondering how those two boys would turn out when they were older.

Well, I was certain that Benny would still cause havoc wherever he’d go, but I was still unsure about Ira.

He was calm and serene now, but that could soon change, as he already is starting to become a little more sarcastic and outspoken.

“Still on a break or whatever you call it?” Grant asked as we walked into the kitchen.

“Saw her on Thursday before dropping Ira off at my mother’s. She looked sad and unsure, so I guess she still needs time to realize that she wants to be with me.”

I grabbed two beers out of the fridge and gave one to him, then we sat down on the couch.

“And I’m guessing that’s how you feel about her too? Haven’t seen you with a girl in years.”

Yeah, that was probably why it took me a while to realize I needed her by my side.

“She’s young, and our age difference is something that could get in the way of many things, but I need to take this chance on her.”

“Yeah, you do. You’re miserable,” Grant said with a grin.

I rolled my eyes at his comment and shook my head. “I’m doing just fine, but I’m missing something. Someone. Someone who shows me that I’m not just here on earth to be a hard-working father. I love Ira, but all the love I give to him leaves a void in my damn heart. And Rooney already started to fill it with her affection.”

Grant eyed me carefully while I spoke, and after both of us were silent for a minute, he raised a brow and nodded.

“Let’s hope she sees what she’s doing to you then. Don’t think she’s heartless and would just push aside everything you two have already gone through. She seemed like a sweet girl.”

And I was lucky he wasn’t going after her when he found out we were taking some time apart.

As big of an asshole as Grant was, he would never take a girl away from me.

But then, I wasn’t sure Rooney liked him that much when she first met him.

“She’s the sweetest, which makes this even harder. I know how much she’s hurting and struggling right now, and all I wanna do is head upstairs and hold her.”

Grant raised a brow at me and sighed. “In a situation like this…that’s probably the only right thing to do, man.”

Yeah, it was. But I promised myself to let her come to me instead of me pushing her to do so.

“A few more days,” I whispered, sighing and running my hand through my hair.

Neither of us spoke for another minute, sipping on our beers and listening to our sons play in Ira’s room.

Maybe the less I thought about her, the sooner she’d be back in my arms.

“Go on. Tell me all about your night with those girls,” I said, leaning back and looking at him.

A grin spread across his face and he got ready
