Truth or Dare - Danielle Allen Page 0,3

mini reunion felt like food for the soul. Although I lived in the same city as my best friend, Latisha, everyone else was spread all over the country.

“Where’s Tisha?” Kingston asked. “I’m surprised I didn’t see you two at the same time. Usually you don’t see one of you without the other.”

“She’s on the dock. Chloe was losing her mind about me coming back to the resort to get her notebook so the fact that I stopped by my room to look for my hair tie was too much,” I informed him as we got off the elevator and walked through the breezeway to the beach.

“How has she been holding up?”

“You know how she used to get during exams?” When he nodded, I continued, “Times ten.”

He chuckled to himself. “Damn.”

“Yeah.” I patted him on the back. “Word on the street is that you were supposed to arrive this morning.”

He laughed harder. “I had to change my flight because of some stuff I had to take care of at the restaurant. I’m here on time though,” he argued. “And I told Dom about it.”

I lifted my hands up. “Don’t shoot the messenger.”

“I’m just saying! It’s a Thursday. Usually four-day weekend means Friday through Monday.”

“I’m just preparing you for the wrath.”

He stopped in his tracks and made a face. “Wrath?”

“I’m just playing,” I giggled, pulling his arm to force him to keep walking. “She’s going to be on a warpath but not with you. She’s upset because Corrine isn’t coming until tomorrow and they had to pay per person for the yacht party.”

“Her sister isn’t here yet? Yeah, she can’t be mad at little ol’ me if—”

I put my hand on his bicep and squeezed. “Little ol’ you? Sheeeeeiiiiiiiittt,” I interrupted with a laugh. “It used to be little ol’ Kingston and now it’s big ol’ Kingston.”

He chuckled. “You’re going to feel funny when I palm your ass and say the same thing.”

“By all means…” I looked over at him. “I’ll give you one good squeeze to check it out.”

“Don’t tempt me.” He made a show of checking me out. “You look like you can make it clap now. Before, you looked like you could just make it snap.”

I howled. Doubled over with laughter, I fell into him. “That was a good one! I have to give it to you. That was good.” I nodded, wiping a tear from my eye. “And to think I almost let you feel my ass.”

His eyes scanned me. “It was a good joke, but now I’m kind of regretting telling it.”

“You missed out, Kingston,” I teased, walking a little in front of him and swaying my hips. “You missed lunch earlier and you missed this ass.”

“I’m fucking up already.”

“Yes, you are.” I glanced at him over my shoulder and caught him staring at my ass.

Although we always flirted and played around like that, that was the first time I ever noticed him sincerely checking me out.

But in his defense, I look good in this outfit! And, admittedly, I had been checking him out, too, I reasoned, brushing off his staring. We’ll call it even.

He cleared his throat. “Am I the last one to the boat?”

“Yes, but you just made it to the resort not too long ago,” I comforted him. “Someone who has been here since this morning showed up right before I left to go get Chloe’s notebook from the bar. So, they beat you here by ten, fifteen minutes.”

Frowning, he nodded. “I know it shouldn’t, but that makes me feel better.”

I snickered.

“Who was late?” he wondered.

“Omar,” I answered, rolling my eyes. “That man is never on time.”

“Ahh. Omar. Of Simone and Omar.”

“We broke up eight years ago,” I laughed. “You guys need to stop with that bullshit.”

We were walking along the dock and then we heard a piercing scream.

“Kingston’s here!” Chloe exclaimed from fifty yards away.

He checked his watch. “I’m not late,” he insisted under his breath.

I used my hand to smother my giggles. “What time is it?”

“Chloe’s itinerary said we were getting on the yacht at six-thirty on Thursday.” He lifted his arms at his sides and then let them drop. “It’s a quarter after six.”

I snickered at the expression on his face. “I got your back.”

“Bet.”

When we reached the group, Kingston went around saying hi to everyone. I made a beeline for Latisha.

“We saw Kingston last year, when did he start looking like that?” she hissed as soon as I was within earshot of her.

I cackled. “I know right! I was walking
