gave me a sultry tip of her lips.

“Depends. Your room or mine?” The flutter of her lashes followed her reply. I was sure she thought she was being coy. Honestly, she seemed phony as hell, but it didn’t matter. We both knew the score in this game.

In the past, I’d have had no problem bringing her to my room, because Alex would’ve likely had someone in there too. Now, it seemed disrespectful, and I wasn’t that big of a douche.

“You have your room to yourself?” I whispered as I leaned in and nuzzled her ear. Not that I hadn’t ever had a threesome or an audience, but I wasn’t in the mood that night.

When she nodded and sighed, I grinned into her neck. “Perfect. In that case, yours.”

“Sounds good. I’ll let my friends know I’ll be having company so they don’t wake us too early for breakfast.” She walked off toward a group of women at the other end of the bar. I wasn’t going to tell her I’d be gone way before breakfast.

Being a red-blooded male, I appreciated her ass as she walked, then turned to Alex.

“I still can’t believe you gave up all the amazing pussy that being a professional athlete gets you. I honestly never thought I’d see the day. Not that Syd isn’t a great girl,” I said with an apologetic shrug.

“Gee thanks,” Alex said with an eye roll.

“Better you than me, I guess.” I raised my glass in a mock salute before draining the dark lager.

“One of these days you’re going to meet a girl that knocks your dick in the dirt, and I’m gonna be there to say I told you so,” he replied with a chuckle.

I snorted out a laugh before I motioned to the bartender for another. “Okay. Sure. You keep thinking that. I’m never getting tied down to one chick. By the way, I’ll be out of the room most of the night.”

He softly chortled into his glass. “I figured that.”

The blonde returned and started kissing on my neck.

“Famous last words, my friend.” Alex grinned evilly and I picked up the fresh lager. After taking a deep pull, I set it down.

“Not famous last words—the truth,” I insisted as I stood and patted Alex on the back. Then with a grin, I pulled the blonde behind me as we left the hotel bar.

I should’ve kept my mouth shut.

“I cannot believe I let you talk me into this,” I muttered to my best friend.

“I cannot believe you are bitching, woman! You get to watch all these sexy men skate all over the ice for free. You’re welcome,” Sergio said with a snap of his head and a dramatic huff.

“Dude, you know I hate hockey,” I grumbled as I sat in my seat next to him and drank from my hot chocolate.

He turned my direction with a heavy pause. “How? How does anyone hate hockey?”

My eyes rolled as I avoided answering his question, because he knew why. Sergio and I had met in our senior year of college up in Minnesota. We’d found out that we were both from the Austin area and had been best friends since.

His parents were loaded, and the seats were actually theirs, but they hardly ever used them. Sergio had been begging me to go with him for the past year. I’d finally gave in and brought my unhappy ass with him.

“It’s freaking freezing in here, for one. Who thinks this is fun? I feel like we’re still up in Minnesota. It’s ridiculous. It shouldn’t be colder inside than it is out.” With a grumpy huff, I pulled my beanie down further and wrapped my scarf tighter.

He sat there blinking at me like I was out of my damn tree.

“Don’t look at me like that.”

“You are the one who is absolutely ridiculous. You know that, right?”

“Hmphf!”

The game started, and I had to work really hard to act disinterested. Hockey was actually a pretty intense sport, and it was fast-paced as hell. But it was the principle of it. Hockey players were conceited dickheads.

And I was sticking to my guns.

The game seemed to go by way faster than I thought it would. Before I knew it, Sergio was gathering our stuff and telling me to hurry.

“Hurry to what?” I huffed.

“Quick! Get over to the rail!” He pushed me, and I swatted at him.

“Why?” I asked in exasperation. With Sergio at my back, we pushed our way over to the railing that overlooked where the
