A Tiger For Two - Lia Davis Page 0,10
that between them two. Neither one wanted to give the other an inch as if submitting to the other’s demands was a sign of weakness.
Jon may not know what it was like to grow up as a shifter, but he knew from his military experience that hot-headedness and dominance didn’t always work in one’s favor.
Tanner nodded to Rhea. “How are the kids?”
“As expected. They all miss Luna, but they are strong and know she will return to us.” A spark of internal light flashed in Rhea’s blue depths. It was brighter, fiercer, than just her wolf looking out.
“We will bring her back.” There was promise in Tanner’s tone like he was making a vow.
“You bet your ass we will,” Alec said as he came up behind Rhea and drew her into him, kissing her neck.
Jon couldn’t stop his gaze from landing on Sasha. Their eyes locked for a few moments before she drew her brows together and entered the office building. Jon left Tanner talking with Alec and followed the Healer. He met up with her at the elevator. “Hi.”
“Hello.” She didn’t look at him as they waited. “How are things?”
Her tone was matter of fact, which made him study her profile. Her white blonde hair had grown out some and she had it pulled back in a ponytail. She was beautiful and compassionate with the gentle nature of a Healer. Every time he was close to her, his body tensed, and his tiger paced. At first, he didn’t understand the reaction, but it was far more intense than just seeing a pretty woman and wanting her. This was soul deep, and it scared the shit out him.
Until now, he’d avoided her. All it did was make the need to touch her, scent her, and claim her grew more and more intense. So much so it hurt. When he finally confessed to Tanner a few weeks ago, Tanner said it would hurt Sasha as well.
The elevator doors switched open. When they were closed inside the lift together, he pressed the stop button and faced her.
“What are you doing?” She reached for the button and he stopped her by taking her hands in his.
The warm, shocking current of the connection made him groan. Through a growl, he said, “I need to talk with you, alone.”
She pulled her hands from his and crossed her arms. “You had plenty of time to come talk to me. Why now?”
“Being around you…I don’t know how to deal with it. I’m not sure how to deal with having the soul of a tiger living inside me. Not to mention when the fucker takes over and forces the shift.” He scrubbed a hand over his face and turned his back to her. “I’ve wanted you like I’ve never wanted anyone. I thought by avoiding it I could figure out how to deal with it. Then there’s Tanner.”
The rustling of clothes drew his attention over his shoulder. Sasha closed the gap between them and slid her arms around his middle while pressing her cheek to his back. Her floral and berries scent enveloped him, reminding him of home.
After a few moments she said, “You sense Tanner as a mate too. So do I.”
Jon turned and framed her face. “I have no idea what I’m doing.”
“Neither do I.” She cupped his cheek. His confusion and it pulled at her heart. So many times, she wished he’d reach out to her, trust her to be his friend. It was about time he came to his senses. “We have plenty of time to figure it out. No one said that we have to mate right now. Tanner and I have a lot to work out before we are ready for that step and we’ve known each other a long time. Plus, he’s too stubborn.”
She looked away and frowned. He lifted her chin so she met his stare. “What is it?”
“Tanner is too dominant. Our wolves clash all the time, neither one wanting to submit to the other. I’m not sure if we’re meant to be together and that hurts.”
Jon hugged her close. “Have you two actually spent time together. Like a date or a quiet evening at home or something?”
She shook her head and stepped out of his embrace. “Not since Royce betrayed the Pack and Luna was forced to kill him. Something broke in Tanner that day. He walks the line of going feral and keeps me at a distance.”
Jon knew what she was talking about. A painful darkness surrounded
