Temper (Knights of Fury #3) - Chantal Fernando Page 0,3
do. In fact, he looks slightly concerned. “You want to live a little, so you have decided to take me up on the date I’ve been dreaming about for the last...how many years exactly?”
“Five, I believe,” I mutter, and clear my throat once more. “Yes, pretty much, unless you’ve changed your mind now?”
He smirks. “You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever laid my eyes on. I don’t think I’ve ever asked anyone out more than once in my life.” He pauses, and then adds, “Actually I can’t even remember the last time I asked anyone out, other than you.”
That can’t be right.
We see each other twice a year at the most, and he’s sexy as hell, powerful, and I’m sure he has women throwing themselves at him. And as for me being the most beautiful woman he’s ever laid eyes on...
I don’t think I’m anything special.
I mean, I know I’m not completely unfortunate in the looks department. I have long dark hair, and a curvy body that most people would consider to be plus sized, and along with my amber eyes and heart-shaped lips, I do okay. Yet I don’t think I ever expected to encounter such a compliment.
“I don’t know how any of that can be true,” I say, shaking my head. “But you can explain it all over dinner. I finish here at seven.”
“Seven it is.” He nods, flashing me a grin. “I’ll be here early in case you decide to change your mind.”
“I won’t,” I declare, moving to serve a new customer that walks in.
I don’t know how today took this turn of events, but for the first time in a long time, I’m excited.
Chapter Two
“You’re doing what?” Ivy asks as I remove my Franks T-shirt and look at myself in the staff mirror.
“I’m going out for dinner,” I tell her again.
“With a man?” she asks, blinking slowly a few times.
“Yes, Ivy, with a man,” I say with an eye roll.
She continues to stare at me with wide eyes while I fix my hair and apply some lipstick. “Is it with Ben? He’s been wanting to ask you out for months.”
“No, it’s not,” I reply, turning away from the mirror to face her. “Ben?”
“Yep,” she says, shrugging. “You didn’t get that vibe from him? He asked me what your favorite flowers were and everything.”
I definitely didn’t get that vibe from him, which goes to show just how oblivious I am with the opposite sex. “It’s no one local, just going out for a meal and a chat, no big deal.”
“My big sister is finally going on a date and paying attention to men, how is that not a big deal?” she asks, doing a little happy dance, shimmying her hips from side to side. “Now you can stop being such a saint and making me look bad.”
I grin. “Not being socially awkward isn’t a bad thing. How do I look?”
I’m wearing high-waisted black jeans and a thin sweater—nothing much, but it’s all I have to work with without going home to get changed. Luckily, I had some makeup in my bag.
“Stunning,” she says, smiling with her eyes. “Is he coming in here to pick you up? Because I’m nosy as hell and am going to be all over that.”
Cringing, I rub the back of my neck. I was kind of hoping I was going to get away with leaving with Temper without Ivy seeing, but I know that’s not going to happen. “It’s Temper,” I blurt out. “I’m going out for dinner with Temper.”
I don’t have to explain who he is, because she knows. Everyone here knows.
Her green eyes widen and her lips part. “You’re going out to dinner with the president of the Knights of Fury MC?”
“He wasn’t president when I first met him,” I mutter, and expel a sigh. “And don’t you dare go and tell Mom. You know that she will kill me, and she doesn’t need any added stress right now.”
“I’m not going to tell Mom, but I’d love to know what
