Technical Threat (Westin Force #4) - Julie Trettel Page 0,65
snorted. “Older.”
“Well duh, you said you sold your company at twenty-five. And you’ve been working with Westin Force for a while. I can do math, too.”
He kissed the top of my head and I didn’t think he was going to answer. “Twenty-nine,” he finally said. “I’ve been with the Force for three years after fumbling around and doing much of nothing after the sale went through.”
“So I’m mated to an old man. I guess that’s not the end of the world.”
“Old man? Hardly,” he said.
He rolled me onto my back and preceded to prove he was most definitely not an old man.
I giggled and playfully pushed him away before caving, knowing the pleasure he would bring to me.

Chapter 21
The drive back to San Marco was just as stressful as the drive to Womack. Nonna still wanted to stop every hour to stretch and pee. I even tried banning liquids and that woman still had to pee. I suspected she was doing it just to drive me insane.
With three cars our caravan ran at a slower pace than I normally would have driven by myself. We had five drivers to rotate between them, so it wasn’t too bad. Nonna had even taken turns riding in each vehicle.
“I just want to get to know my new granddaughters is all,” she insisted.
I loved that she was already accepting them into our little family pack. It meant a lot to me, but I suspected it meant a great deal to her too.
It was late afternoon before Susan finally took a break from behind the wheel and road shotgun with me. I held her hand grateful for a few minutes alone with my mate. I’d missed her even if I did see her at every single stop Nonna insisted on.
We were making good time though despite it all and we didn’t stop until almost seven. Sure we’d been on the road for twelve hours and I could have been almost home in that time, but we were more than halfway home and still had two days to go.
The girls hadn’t realized we were stopping for the night when Sage called to tell me Nonna was hungry and saw the sign for Cracker Barrel coming up. I knew her plan though, and the fact there was a casino just down the street hadn’t gone over my head either. She was a calculating little woman who left nothing to chance.
“Are we staying next door or at the casino?” I asked her once we had stopped and got a table in my Nonna’s favorite road trip restaurant.
“There’s a casino nearby?” she asked slyly.
“You know there is.”
“I’m too young for the casino,” Sage reminded her. “Unless you think I could pass. Can you make me a fake I.D.?”
“No,” Susan and I said at the same time.
“Fine,” Sage huffed.
“We’ll stay at the casino,” Nonna announced as if it were some big shocking surprise to me. “I’m feeling lucky tonight.”
Susan’s face turned a noticeable shade of red. “Penny for your thoughts,” I whispered, but she just kicked me under the table.
Sapphire grinned and shook her head. “I think someone else is feeling lucky tonight, Nonna.”
That was the moment I realized that no good could come from Nonna and Sapphire spending time together.
“Oh, that’s fabulous news. I’m so ready for great-grandpups. I’m not getting any younger you know.”
Susan snorted her water and then blew it out of her nose as she started choking.
“Could you at least wait to drop a bomb like that when she isn’t drinking?”
Susan’s eyes nearly bugged out of her head. “You’re encouraging her?”
I started laughing. “Trust me sweetheart, there is nothing I can say or do to discourage that woman. The more I try, the worst she gets.”
Nonna tried to look innocent as she shrugged her shoulders, but the truth was in her eyes. She was incorrigible.
“My apologies, Susan. I certainly didn’t mean to try and kill you. I’d never get my great-grandpups then,” she said sweetly.
I groaned.
Susan looked at me with so many questions in her eyes. We certainly hadn’t discussed anything about extending our family and the truth was I was in no rush to do that.”
“She’s been hounding me for years to give her grandpups. I knew it was only a matter of time before she increased the efforts now that you are here.”
“A little warning next time would be nice.”
We had a quieter dinner. I booked rooms at the casino for us while we waited for the check and then we paid and left
