Tap Out (Reaper's Den Book One) - Nikki Mays Page 0,51
looks at them and then me in confusion. “Apparently they work with her.”
He nods his head slowly. “And I’m guessing you ladies don’t like her?”
“What’s there to like?” Kealy drawls, surprising the hell out of me and Edge. Stacey just nods her head. “What?” Kealy looks between Edge and myself. “I’m nice, not Mother Teresa. I can dislike people you know.”
Edge and I both hold up our hands and take a step back from the woman who definitely has more layers than she’s shown us. “Never said you were Sugar.” Edge says barely holding back his smirk. “I just didn’t expect you to say what you said.”
Kealy gives a little shrug. “She’s always mean to Stacey for no reason. I don’t like when people are mean to my friends.”
Stacey looks over at her. “Don’t act like she isn’t a royal bitch to you too just because we’re friends.”
Kealy gives a small shrug again. “It doesn’t bother me when people are mean to me. I just don’t like it when someone does it to people that I care about. It makes me mad.”
“She’s mean to both of you?” Edge asks lowly. I know the girls don’t understand why his bristles are up, but I do.
Stacey looks at him and crosses her arms. “Yep. So, if you could possibly do me a favor and never give her the time of day, that would be great. The last thing that I want to hear is how she boning one of my friends. She would make sure to rub that in my face daily.”
Edge looks down at her seriously. “Stace, I can guarantee you that my dick wouldn’t want to touch her with a hundred foot pole.” His eyes briefly look over at Kealy before returning to Stacey. So quickly that if I hadn’t been paying attention, I would’ve missed it and so would Stacey. “Trust me when I say that only one person has any of my attention.”
My woman is definitely quick. She gives Edge a Cheshire grin that would give that cat a run for his money. “Good to know.” She gives him a mischievous look. “Good luck with that, you’ll probably need it.”
“Need luck with what?” Kealy asks, confusion written all over her face. “Staying away from Karen? Because that woman is definitely persistent and always gets what she wants.”
It’s taking everything in me to not smile. And judging by the look on Stacey’s face I’m not alone. But he really will need luck and a miracle when it comes to Kealy.
Edge runs his hand over his mouth. “Nah Sugar, I only let people near me that I want in my life. And she’s not one of them.”
“Oh.” Kealy states before blinking a few times. “Okay.” Yup, a miracle.

A few hours later, Stacey and I are at my house relaxing on the couch. She pounced on me about Edge the moment we walked in. I’m actually surprised she waited as long as she did. You could see the wheels turning in her head the rest of the afternoon. She made sure that she was watching Edge, who happened to watch Kealy quite a bit. It wouldn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the man definitely has a thing for Kealy. I ended up coming clean about some of it. Just not the part where he’s mildly stalking her.
“I’m glad that he’s taking the time to let her get to know him before he makes a move.” She states happily as she’s curled into my side. We’ve only been half watching the movie that’s on TV. The real life one that seems to be playing in her head has kept us busy.
I rub my hand up and down her arm. “He figured she wouldn’t take too kindly to him shooting his shot right out the gate.”
The piglet snort that I get in return to my comment makes me smile. “Yeah, that’s an understatement.” She tilts her head back and gives me a sad look. “I just hope that all of his waiting isn’t for nothing. I can’t even imagine what she’s been through. I’ve only heard bits and pieces after a decent amount of wine and I’m sure that’s only the tip of the iceberg. I really don’t know if she’ll ever actually let another man get close to her.” Stacey gives me the saddest sounding sigh that makes my heart hurt. “I hate that man so much. I really hope that he’s getting beaten and raped every
