Tap Out (Reaper's Den Book One) - Nikki Mays Page 0,38
you say so.” He mumbles and I just know that everything that I just said went in one ear and right out the other. Thanks to having teenage daughters I know that look well.
“Now I get why you don’t want me to kick his ass.” Edge utters low enough for only me to hear. “Shit, I couldn’t do half the damage that he’s already done to himself.” I just give him a look instead of verbally replying.
“Jameson, this is Stacey and Kealy.” When he hears Stacey’s name his eyes light with recognition and humor. I narrow mine at him to make sure that he keeps his thoughts to himself. Jesus, we really did a piss poor job of keeping our relationship a secret, not that I was really trying too hard.
Jameson looks at them with a charming smile that oddly enough doesn’t bother me. “Nice to meet you.” He says politely in a deep voice that doesn’t match his baby face. His eyes seem to zero in on the fact that Kealy seems to be uncomfortable with him standing near. Although I’ll give it to her, she really seems to be trying her best not to make it obvious.
Unexpectedly Jameson walks behind Edge and myself, effectively making sure that he’s no longer directly near Kealy, he even made sure to go out of his way to avoid walking near her as well. He walks over to Stacey’s side holding out his hand, which she takes with a smile. “It’s very nice to meet you in person. We’ve all missed seeing you around here. Reaper never got on our cases as much when you were around.” This fucker actually gets down onto his knees, which is comical considering his head still comes up to Stacey’s shoulders. “Please don’t ever leave us again. I’m too tall to be doing so much cardio just to avoid Reaper. Just think about my poor knees that I’m on begging you to stay.” He gives her a puppy dog look that makes her burst out laughing.
“Oh my God,” Stacey giggles. “Where did you even find this guy?”
“He’s a stray that never left.” I drawl. “I guess it’s true, you shouldn’t feed a stray because they’ll never leave.”
Jameson releases Stacey’s hand that he still had a hold of and gets up with a lot more grace than someone his size should ever be able too. He places both of his enormous hands on his chest, right above his heart. “Ouch Reaper, that hurts man.” He gives me a sad look. “If anything, I’m more like a well-trained, loyal guard dog.”
“Well trained?” I raise an eyebrow. “I yelled at you just this morning for peeing on the side of the building.”
He holds up his index finger while everyone else chuckles. “First of all, I was outside, so see…trained.” I look heavenward and ask myself how I let this fool into my life and gym. “And secondly, that dude Adam was in the bathroom taking a massive sh…” He sheepishly rubs the back of his neck while looking at the two women in our midst with their noses scrunched up in disgust. “Ah, what I mean is that there was no way that I was going into that bathroom. Standing by the dumpsters smelled a whole lot better.”
“We really didn’t need that mental picture man.” Edge says with humor lacing his words.
Jameson shrugs making himself look like a child and not a grown man…ish. “Yeah, my mom and sisters get on my case all the time about me being a little too graphic about things.”
“You have sisters?” Is asked surprisingly by Kealy.
Jameson drops his arms to his sides, making him seem like a relaxed kid, instead of the trained fighter that he really is. He gives her a wide, genuine smile. “Yes ma’am.” He nods his head. “I’m the baby of the family and have three older sisters.”
“Poor kid.” Edge mutters.
Jameson shrugs one shoulder. “Eh, it wasn’t that bad. They stopped dressing me up in their clothes once I reached seven. I had already had one of my massive growth spurts and I ended up ripping one the blouses that they tried to put me in.” He gives us a small smile when he sees the looks of shock on our faces. “It was pretty smooth sailing after that.” He pauses and looks like he’s thinking something over. “Well, as long as I remembered to stay out of my sisters’ way during that time of the month. But I
