Tap Out (Reaper's Den Book One) - Nikki Mays Page 0,20
to me and raises an eyebrow. “I’ll do what you asked.” I hold up my index finger when she looks a little too relieved. “But know this. We will be having a talk. I’ve given you enough space to come to your senses. You won’t always be working and I won’t always be your patient. Trust me, we will be talking…soon.”
I watch as she swallows hard. She gives me her best glare which is about as scary as a puppy’s. “No need, we have absolutely nothing to discuss Mr. Sobihan.” She swiftly turns on her heel and walks out of my room.
“That little shit.” I mutter to myself but smile the first real smile that I’ve had in months. “Game on Baby. Game on.” I’m going to get my woman back whether she knows it or not.
And thanks to this injury and surgery, I’m going to have plenty of time to plot away.
One Week After Surgery:
“Do you think that we should do like farmers do with lame animals and put them out of their misery?” Becca my traitorous demon spawn asks.
Missy looks over at her, then at me, and then back to her sister. “You mean like shooting him? Where would we get a gun?”
Paige shrugs her shoulders but never takes her eyes off of her phone. “I’m sure that we could borrow one of my dad’s guns.” She pauses for a moment. “Declan would probably let us borrow one without too many questions too.”
“You three get that I’m sitting right here and can hear you, correct?” I growl.
“Oh we know Dad.” Missy rolls her eyes. “The whole town knows exactly where you are at all times thanks to how much you’ve been bitching about everything.”
“Seriously Dad,” Becca starts. “I’m pretty sure that anyone who’s had any contact with you in the past few days would offer us a gun and an alibi just to put us all out of our misery.”
“I haven’t been that bad.” I lie. I have been. I know that I have.
In my defense, my plotting hasn’t really gone well. To my dismay, my woman called out the next few days and made sure that I wasn’t her patient when she came back. I have no idea how she managed to pull that off since I specifically asked for her. I haven’t seen her since that first day and it’s pissing me off. After seeing and talking to her again, I can’t go back to how things were. I thought that I was doing the right thing originally and giving her space. I even thought that she might be better off without me.
She’s right about my past. It’s as colorful as a rainbow.
But I know damn well that no one is going to love her as much as I will and do. No one will treat her as good as I will, when I get her back in my life for good. I swear to God, I’m never letting the stubborn woman out of my sight again. She does a better disappearing act than any magician I’ve ever seen.
And the pain from my surgery isn’t exactly helping matters. Am I on the grumpy side right now? Sure, who wouldn’t be? But my family members are acting like I’m the world’s biggest pain in the ass. I think that besides being a little grumpy, I’ve been the perfect patient.
Paige looks at me with a smirk. “The only reason that the three of us are stuck here taking care of you is because we’re getting paid to. Sage offered us a ridiculous amount of money to not have to deal with you anymore.”
“Grandma and Grandpa chipped in too, just to make the pot a little sweeter.” Missy sings merrily. “At this rate, the three of us will be able to buy our own homes next week.”
I look at the three idiots that I love dearly. “What would any of you know about owning your own home? Hmm, tell me something smartasses. Who are you going to call if something breaks?”
“A hot handyman.” A three say in unison. Everyone is right. They really are getting creepier by the day.
I can feel my eye and cheek twitch. “There will be no other men in your lives besides me and JJ. EVER.” I make sure to enunciate the last word in case they’ve become hard of hearing. Although considering how loud they play that shit music that they listen to, it’s an actual possibility.
Paige rolls over like a lazy cat in
