crass words, but she shook her head.

He parked the car in front of the sprawling Warwick Estate, but neither of them exited the vehicle.

“You could have told me when we were talking about The Princess Bride.”

“It was too soon,” he argued. “I knew I had to make up for the shit I had said. The reputation I carry.”

Bethany licked her lips and took a deep breath. “This is why you insisted that you wanted to date me. The last thirty-six hours just make so much more sense to me now. Like wanting to discover the identity of my mother’s killer.”

London knew he should tell Bethany that Leonard had been the one to kill her mother. Bethany deserved to know the truth. But it wasn’t the time, just then. London would find a better way to tell her. Once he had all resolved it, he would tell her. He wanted Leonard Humphries in prison before he reopened all of Bethany’s wounds.

Selfishly, he also didn’t want to ruin their day together.

It definitely felt like they were turning a new leaf in their relationship. London knew that they had sex. The best damn sex of his life, but he wanted so much more with Bethany.

She was his mate, and while she had been mad at him, refusing to take his calls or see him, he had felt the sharp pangs of her absence. He understood now what it was like to be away from his mate. He didn’t know how his mother could stand it. London had only been without Bethany for a short time, but even that had been too much.

“Beth, I swear, I just want to love you and protect you. I know it’s a lot. But we can start slow. Date and just deal with the mating stuff later. We haven’t known each other very long. And though I know you’re it for me, I know you’re human. Even though you were crushing on me before you knew me, you’re in control here.”

“No more sexual conquests?”

He rolled his eyes. “Literally, the only person I ever want to have sex with, ever again, is you.”

“Okay. Now show me your dragon.” Bethany wiggled her eyebrows at him. She leaped out of the car and walked around to his side.

He was barely out of it before Bethany had latched on to his neck. It surprised him, but he was quick on the uptake and wrapped his arms around her waist.

“I was so sad when I thought you had used me. It hurt. More than it should. More than when I found out my ex had cheated on me. I think that says something about the connection between us. Do you think it’s possible…” she bit down on her lip.

“Yes?” he encouraged, longing to know what was happening in that beautiful head of hers.

“Do you think it’s at all possible that I was gaga over you because I’m your mate? I mean, I know I don’t have a mate sense like you do, but is it plausible that I would feel the pull?”

London considered this for a moment. “I’ll be honest, I’ve never heard of that before. But I like the idea of it. That you knew I was yours before I even knew you existed.”

“It’s kind of romantic,” she gushed.

“Yes, I suppose it is.” He licked his lips, watching hers intently. “Do you think it would be all right if I kissed you?”

Bethany didn’t answer. Instead, she got onto the tips of her toes and placed her lips against his in a sweet kiss. He took control of it, deepening it as he angled her head back to get better access to her. Bethany sighed happily into the kiss, and he slowly pulled away.

“You know you don’t have to ask me to kiss me, right? I’m your mate.”

“I just wanted to make sure, Beth. This is important to me. You’re important to me. I’ve never done the relationship thing. I’m going to be clumsy. I’m going to fuck up.”

She shrugged. “Everyone fucks up. It’s how you make up that matters.”

“How about a tour of the sky?”

Bethany’s eyes lit up with wonder. “You meant it, you’ll really take me up into the sky?”

“If you’re up for it,” he answered.

“Awesome. Shift!” She pushed away from him and hopped excitedly onto her heels.

London laughed and began peeling his clothes off.

“Hey, whoa. What are you doing?”

“Shifting tears the clothes, so it’s better to strip beforehand.”

“Oh, well. I better turn around then.”

He frowned at her. “Why?”

“Because if I
