“I need to get out of here, Belle,” he said, swallowing down the lump in his throat and revealing another crack in his armor. “I need air and freedom, and the wide-open road. I need out of this room.”
I lifted my head from the pillow and looked up at him, his stormy gray eyes holding my gaze as he fed me his frustrations, hoping and willing me to understand. I chewed on my bottom lip and slid out of bed, pulling my skirt back down as I thought about how I could help him, and then it came to me. I still hadn’t said anything, but I looked over at the numbers on the machine next to the bed, making sure that all that excitement hadn’t harmed him in any way.
My hands lifted his arms, my gaze searching his skin to make sure he was okay and that I hadn’t done any damage, but after a quick search I found he was fine. His scars looked angry and red, but they were healing—he was healing—and if the way he’d looked at me only moments before was anything to go by, then he was healing from the inside too.
He closed his eyes, his chest heaving as he tried to control his frustration instead of letting it all out and yelling at me.
“I have an idea,” I said, cutting though the silence. He opened his eyes and I glanced down at his nakedness, watching his body stir back to life. “But let’s get you cleaned up first.”

Beast nodded a thank you as the prospect left us alone on the roof of the hospital. At least I thought it was a thank you. It could have been anything, knowing Beast, since he never seemed to apologize or thank anyone for anything.
