Take a Breath (Take #1) - Jaimie Roberts Page 0,55

that felt like.” He offers me a hand to hoist me up. “As much as I loved that, I don’t ever want to see you on your knees in front of me again.” Once I am chest-level with Jake, he kisses me gently, brushing his finger along my chin. “You got that?” I nod my head, and he kisses me again, more hungrily this time. I moan into his mouth.

Pulling away, he flicks my nose and places some of his shower gel onto a sponge. As he squeezes the sponge, the white lather quickly gathers, and I watch as he nears me. He starts gently easing his way around my body. My arms, my chest, my back, before sinking down towards my legs. I close my eyes and moan at his touch.

“Are you enjoying this?”

Opening my eyes, I catch him staring. “Yes, and I’ve enjoyed every single moment ever since you pounced on me in the kitchen.”

His lips curl up into a smile. “Since I pounced on you? You make me out to be some kind of lion out to hunt its prey.” He gets up from his knees, and he taps my arm. I comply, lifting it up so he can get under and around my breasts.

“And I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

With the shower done, we towel each other off, and afterwards, I decide to glance at the time. It’s after one in the morning. I can’t believe how much time has gone by. As if reading my thoughts again, Jake points towards his bed. “In you get, then. We have some sleep to catch up on.”

I look towards the cavernous, king size, mahogany bed, and it suddenly dawns on me. I’m about to spend tonight with Jake in his bed.

All.

Night.

Long.

I smile as I take a leisurely stroll towards it. Once there, I slip between the silk sheets and let out a contented sigh as I make myself comfortable.

“You’re so beautiful,” he sighs.

Glancing up, I find Jake staring at me. “You’re not so bad yourself, you know,” I answer back. He smiles, slipping into bed with me, and very soon we are spooning. Jake starts to stroke my hair, and it feels so relaxing, that I moan slightly.

“Can I ask you something?”

He stops stroking for a moment. “Of course, anything.”

Remembering what he’d said earlier, I’m curious. “What did you mean by my drunken confession?”

He laughs a little, and I feel the heat of his mouth in my hair. It sends goosebumps all over me.

“Well, the night we played that game of My Favorite Things, you not only told me that I had kissable lips, but you also told me that I was your favorite thing. I wouldn’t normally relish being called a thing, but I was on cloud nine all night after that. I hardly slept a wink because I kept thinking about what you’d said. I held you for hours, and I didn’t ever want to let you go. All I ever dreamed of was finding out that you wanted me just as much as I wanted you. It just seemed so forbidden for me to have you, though. I felt like even if my dreams came true, it wouldn’t be enough because you didn’t belong with me. It seemed to me that I couldn’t win no matter what, and that tormented me. Eventually, I forced myself to back away from you before I made what I thought would be a terrible mistake. You can’t know how badly I wanted to wake you up and tell you that I felt the same way. It helped strengthen my resolve to remind myself that you were more than a little intoxicated. It wouldn’t have been the right time, even if it had been the right thing to do. In the end, I went down to the bar and poured myself a few glasses of brandy just to calm my nerves enough to sleep.”

He sighs. “Then there was that time you came home from your night out with Jessie. I took you to your bed, and once you fell asleep, you murmured something else about me being your favorite thing. It was the most delicious sound I had ever heard coming from your lips. I was in real turmoil then and have been ever since. Don’t even get me started on that shower. I saw you long before you noticed me, and I knew I should leave, but I couldn’t help but stare. I felt like a pervert, but
