smug canary. “I’ll give you a minute to find your bearings.”

She disappeared into the bathroom, and I lost track of how long she was gone. What the fuck just happened? Where had she learned to do that? I didn’t want to know.

I stared into space, eyes unfocused, my flaccid cock resting against my hip when she returned from the bathroom. “You cheated,” I rasped.

She put the toy and lube back in the drawer. “How’s it feel?”

I should have known. She would be that sort of girl. In hindsight it seemed all too predictable. The moment I let down my guard, she rammed a finger right up my ass.

“You cheated.”

She chuckled. “Serves you right. This is actually good. Now, you’ll be a little more prepared for when I take my turn. I’m not sure when that will be. I really do have to study at some point today, and tomorrow night I have plans. I guess I’ll let you know when the mood strikes and you can just enjoy the sweet anticipation of waiting and wondering when I’m going to knock on your back door again. I wonder which toys I’ll have with me that day.”

My gaze narrowed. Did she think I was going to back out? Not a chance. She could talk all the smack in the world, she wasn’t intimidating me out of the deal.

“Bring it. And when you’re done playing Mistress, I look forward to fucking that smug look right off your face.”

“I’m sure you will, but I still think I’ll have my fun while it’s my turn.” She tossed my shirt at my chest. “Get dressed. I have homework to do.”

I sat up, her earlier comment just registering. “Wait. Where are you going tomorrow night?”

“I have work.”

“Oh.” Right. Meaning she had a fucking date.

She doesn’t kiss them or touch them. Though that one guy always walked her up and hugged her. The fucking lines were blurred, and why did she have to have that job?

I silently stepped into my pants, my blood pressure rising. There was nothing I could do about her job right now, but maybe if things got more serious, we could figure out another option for her to make money, something that didn’t require my girlfriend to date other men.

Was she my girlfriend? Not yet. “What are you doing next Saturday?”

She shrugged, brushing out her hair. “I don’t know yet. Why?”

I savored the glimpse into her world and loved witnessing her performing personal acts like brushing her hair. She fascinated me.

“Maybe I could take you out.”

Putting down the brush, she turned to face the bed. “Are you asking me on another date?”

“Yeah.” Whether she realized it or not, I planned to date her. It figured that after all this time as a bachelor, I waited for the most unavailable woman to decide I want a monogamous relationship again. I’d break it to her slowly.

Noting her hesitation, I said, “You’re in charge this time. It’s your turn.”

That seemed to do the trick. “Okay, yeah. Let’s go out.”

I caught her hand, lacing our fingers loosely and pulling her close for a gentle kiss. “I’ll be at your door at seven. Don’t be late.”

“I thought I was in charge.”

“It’s not a matter or power, it’s a matter of etiquette. Be on time.”

“Fine. I’ll be ready.”

Good girl.

Micah took my key and unlocked my door as he always did. “Mind if I come in for a few minutes?”

I stilled, not used to him inviting himself into my home, but I couldn’t tell him no. It was his name on the lease after all. “Sure, come in.”

He followed me inside, and I awkwardly stood by the table, unsure of what to do. This was the moment I usually pried off my heels and put on pajamas, reverting from sexy sugar baby to slouchy college student.

He walked over to my desk and ran a long finger over the edge of my textbook. “Do you like your classes this semester?”

“So far. They’re all in my concentrations, so they keep me interested. Next week I find out where I’m student teaching.”

He looked at me. “You’ll need clothes for that. I can set you up with my personal shopper.”

“You don’t have to do that.”

“I know I don’t have to, Avery. I made the offer because I want to.”

“Thank you.”

He left the desk and took a slow tour of my living room. As beautiful as the renovated mansion was, my apartment was decorated with items that testified to my age. Bright red sofa, fuzzy white
