on his hips. “After all I’ve done for you? You have to think about it?”
“What have you done, exactly?” I asked, playing along. A smirk toyed with his lips as he dropped his gaze from Maddox to me.
“Coffee,” Fin said holding up one finger before adding a second. “Bacon.”
“Oh,” I mused, head tilting back to glance up at Maddox. “He’s right.”
“I am not biting everyone who shows up,” my dragon argued, and he also had a point. I met Fin’s gaze daringly, and the druid smirked.
“I’m not biting them all either.” He took another step toward me. “Is that bothering you, Beautiful? That we’re taking the offering?”
“I don’t care who you bite,” I told him, blithely uncaring at the lie, because obviously I cared or I wouldn’t be kicking up such a damn stink about it. But I didn’t want to care, and that was nearly the same thing. “It’s a good reminder that this place is filled to the rafters with vampires.”
I might as well have said rodent dung. Lips quirking, Fin studied me as though he could pull the truth from me, but I met his gaze blandly even with the dragon wrapped around me. Leaning against him was far too damn comfortable. It really was long past the time I left.
“True, we’re all vampires here,” Fin told me. The lightest of verbal slaps.
Yes. I was a vampire. Thanks for the news flash.
But I said nothing, and the druid sighed. “I didn’t come up here to fight.”
“Why are you here then?” Maddox asked. “I thought Alfred set you a task.”
Oh, had he? “What was that about him not being in charge of you three?”
“He isn’t in charge of us, Beautiful,” Fin told me. “We’re a brotherhood, but some of us are more suited to some tasks than others. I’m the most charming, so I get most of the diplomatic jobs.”
Maddox snorted.
“That said, I won’t be at the party tonight.” His expression bordered on resentful.
It took everything I had to contain my glee. One keeper down. That only left three to avoid. Arguably, Alfred would be busy receiving all his offerings, so that only meant Rogue and Maddox.
This could truly work to my advantage.
“You should be there,” Maddox argued.
“Not necessary. Rogue isn’t accepting offerings either, and since you’ve all but decided to abandon the practice, it would look wrong if I was the only one helping.” Fin gave a shrug. “I don’t want them anyway.”
Even more interesting.
“Good,” Maddox grunted. “When this is done, Alfred will likely stop as well.”
“Right,” Fin said with a snort and a smirk. “Anyway…” He looked to me again. “I won’t see you in your dress tonight, Beautiful, and I may be away for a couple of days. I thought I would come to see if you’ve forgiven me enough for a farewell kiss to tide me over until I return?”
Hope nestled in those words. What I should tell him was he could hold onto hope in one hand and shit in the other and see which one got full first, but I swallowed the words.
Distraction.
I wanted them all distracted.
“Maybe,” I told him instead.
“Really?” Surprise fluttered in his eyes and he smiled. “That’s better than I thought I was doing.” He took another step closer and raised his hands, but hesitated before touching me. Maddox wasn’t moving away, so I gave Fin the tiniest of nods.
He cupped my face and then let out a harsh breath as his shoulders sagged. “Beautiful, if you can forgive me, I will never ask you for another thing.” Then he kissed me. The brush of his mind touched me, but found no purchase. The constant hum that I’d perfected kept him out, but I parted my lips to his and drank in his kiss, even as he pressed me back into Maddox. The grind of his hips to my ass reminded me of just how much the dragon wanted me.
Well, if this was farewell… I wrapped my arms around Fin’s neck and stroked his tongue with mine. The temperature in the room skyrocketed as Maddox began to kiss against my throat and stroke his hands along my sides.
The clothes didn’t make it through the first kiss. The tearing sound went straight to pussy, and I was already hot and slick and ready for them. Fin’s groan as he sucked against my tongue sent another pulse through my system.
I could lie to myself and say I was hungry, but touching them had nothing to do with feeding. Between them, they
