the restroom.”

Calvin let go of my arm. “Want me to come with you?”

I shook my head. “You two keep chatting. I’ll be fine.” We were in a well protected club. If it were any other, I’d need an escort. Thankfully, at these after parties, I didn’t have to worry about crazed fans or being attacked.

Leaving the main bar area, I searched for Kyle. Maybe he went back to the hotel? He wasn’t always the best in populated settings. He could have found some hockey players from the NHL. Pulling out my phone, I sent him a text.

Where did you run off to?

He didn’t respond, and just when my worry was morphing into being seriously concerned, I found him.

A set of arms wrapped around his waist, and a woman’s tongue finding the shell of his ear.

I was frozen in the doorway, blinking as if that would make what I was seeing disappear.

The girl’s eyes widened when she saw me, quickly backing away from Kyle.

He grabbed her, pulling her back into his arms.

Maybe he would have had a different reaction if his back weren’t turned to me.

Anger and hurt rushed through me, my feelings barreling out of my body, and before I knew what was happening, the glass holding my drink left my hand, crashing into the wall inches from Kyle’s head, then shattered into a thousand little pieces.

“What the--“ Kyle ducked, then spun around, his jaw dropping when he saw me.

Tears were streaming from my eyes, my jaw hanging open. I didn’t know what to do or say, I was only numb and stuck in place, still standing there in disbelief.

“This isn’t what you think it is,” Kyle studdared, damn near pushing the girl into the opposite wall.

She let out a sound of disgust, but had the decency to scram. She was lucky I was still in shock, otherwise I would have clawed her eyes out and yanked her fake blonde weave from the top of her head.

Kyle flew in front of me, reaching for me, but I held my hands to stop him. “Why?” I choked through tears. “I don’t…?”

He swallowed, his eyes searching my face. “It’s nothing. She means nothing to me. I don’t even know how she got here… she came onto me. I couldn’t put my hands on her and push her away.”

“I just watched you reach for her,” I gasped. Was the air leaving the room? It felt impossible to breath.

“Baby, please,” he begged, still trying to touch me, but I kept swatting his hands away.

“How long?” I demanded.

“What do you mean?”

I narrowed my wet eyes at him. “Don’t be fucking stupid. You know exactly what I mean… and you better not lie to me.”

His jaw clenched. “Too long.”

I bit down on the insides of my cheeks to stop myself from screaming at him. “I can’t believe this.”

It all made sense now. Why he didn’t push for me to come home like he normally would, why he wouldn’t fly to see me during those long stretches on tour. It explained why it had been two months since we had sex, and why he didn’t jump me the second we set our luggage in the hotel room.

She was the distraction I couldn’t put my finger on, and I had never been more humiliated.

“Regan, please,” he murmured, yanking me into the room and trapping me against the wall with his big arms. “She doesn’t mean anything to me, you’re just gone all of the time. I’m an athlete. I’ve got needs, and when I’m stressed out, those needs have to be met, otherwise I won’t perform at 100%.”

I shoved at his chest for him to get away, but he was like a brick wall. “You’re a fucking asshole. That’s the lamest excuse. If you wanted a bunny to screw whenever you wanted, then you should have broken up with me first!”

“I don’t want to break up with you, why would I want to do that?”

I wiped away my tears, finding my strength. I needed to let anger overpower the hurt. “You should have thought about that before rolling around with that tramp. She can’t be any good. She knew who I was the moment she saw me!”

Kyle lifted a brow, his words a hot whisper. “Everyone knows who you are, Regs. You’re Raina Skye, the hottest woman in the world.”

“More reason to break me, right?” I added, the spitefulness clear in my voice.

Standing as tall as I could, although Kyle still towered over me, I held my ground.
