Spectrum (Stone Society #14) - Faith Gibson Page 0,108

the baby couldn’t do more than lie on a blanket next to Sebastian.

They had been back in the States for almost a month when Frey informed Rafael it was time to not only return home but to also return to being King. His cousin had done an amazing job leading their Clan in Rafael’s absence, but the responsibility wasn’t Frey’s, so Frey took Rafael for a short road trip. When they pulled up at the manor, Rafael cursed his cousin until he noticed all the cars parked in front of the garage. The males of their family had gathered to not only show Rafael the reconstructed house, but to also have an intervention. Before they all lit into him like family and not Clan, Frey gave him a tour. Once they finished going over all the upgrades, the males ganged up on him. Frey told Rafe to get his head out of his ass and be the leader they had followed for two hundred years. Julian had a large part in convincing Rafael he wasn’t to blame for the bombings when he asked Rafe if he blamed Julian for all the trouble with the unknown hacker.

He couldn’t get over the changes to the manor. Instead of rebuilding it exactly as it had been, his brothers and cousins took it upon themselves to make quite a few changes. The dining room had been expanded to accommodate their whole family plus about fifty more, with a set of French doors leading to the patio. Priscilla’s kitchen was also larger with state-of-the-art appliances any master chef would envy. A new, larger game room had been added to the back of the house. The living area which had been destroyed and where Kaya was injured had been transformed into two rooms. One was Rafael’s office, and the other was a play room. The area where his office used to be was now the living area. In some ways it still felt like the old manor, but the new version was so much better. Rafe had been worried about Kaya’s reaction to being home, but there had been enough modifications to make it different while still being theirs.

Now Connor was sitting at the patio table drawing. Amelia and Rain were being chased by Sebastian, Lydia, and Scotty. Deacon and Sabrina’s oldest was getting stronger every day, evidenced by how fast he was running with the others. The younger kids were toddling around, watched over by a stoic Cailín. A couple babies were being passed between the mates, several who were pregnant again, Kaya among them. Rafael’s chest filled with love and pride as he looked over his Clan. They had been through so much individually and collectively, yet here they were. Their Clan was thriving, and some day in the near future, these little ones would be leading the way.

Kaya passed Christina to her father before coming to wrap her arm around Rafael’s waist. “What are you smiling about?”

Rafael gestured to the kids. “All of them.” He placed his hand on her round belly. “And her. They are the future, and I couldn’t be prouder.” Rafael hadn’t become King until he was over five hundred, but he wouldn’t wait that long to pass the crown to his son. As soon as Bas was old enough, Rafael would begin teaching him everything he needed to lead their Clan. He wanted to spend time with his mate without the burden of ruling the Americas. He had competent males leading the Clan in Central and South America, the same way Sin watched over the Clan on the West Coast. Rafe wouldn’t just hand over his duties and abandon Bas. He would be there for his son and all the other kids just like his brothers and cousins would be. The same way Sutton Lazlo was doing for his offspring and their kids. Sutton and Rory had been to visit more than once, and the couple had become close friends with the Clan. Seeing as how their granddaughter was also part of the Stone Society, it made sense the two families blended together.

Sebastian ran over to where Rafael and Kaya were standing long enough to kiss his momma’s belly. It was something he did often. Bas also talked to his little sister, promising to be the best big brother ever. Whenever Connor was close enough to hear Sebastian make his claim, the older boy would get a far off look in his eye, then smile. Rafael didn’t need Connor’s visions to know his son was telling the truth. Bas had Kaya for a mother, and she was the best at teaching their son how to love while Rafael taught him everything else. Yes, Sebastian would be the best big brother, something Rafael strived to be with his own family.

“Love you, Momma. Love you, Papa,” Bas said before rushing off to play again.

Rafael was loved, and that knowledge brought him back to being his old self after their time in Italy. It was what kept him going every day. Because when you were loved as he was, there was nothing that mattered more.

A Note from The Author

When readers ask me to write about their favorite characters, I do my best to give them what they want. Sometimes, though, the storyline just isn’t enough for a full book, and that’s when I came up with the idea for Spectrum. If you enjoyed the book, I would appreciate you scrolling to the end and leaving a review. It doesn’t have to be long, just honest and heartfelt.

This one was a little harder to write than most. As with the other books that deal with death, my heart was heavy. I cried. Then I cried some more. I went into writing Gabriel’s story knowing he would never get out of prison, but I didn’t know how heartbreaking it would be. I don’t think the next book will be quite as heavy.

Speaking of the next one, it will be the last in the series. If you get my newsletter or are part of my Facebook reader group, you know it’s not really the end. The next generation is set to take over, and I am looking forward to seeing what the “kids” do. At the end of Malakai, I intended the last book to be titled “Achilles,” but the more I think about it, the last book will be about so much more than his and Hunter’s story.

As of now, the next and final book will be titled “Stone Society.” It will be a culmination of all the characters’ trials, tears, and hard-fought happily ever afters. I don’t have a release date, but I’m shooting for November 11.

About the Author

Multi-genre author Faith Gibson began writing in high school, and through the years, penned many stories and poems. As her dreams continued getting crazier than the one before, she decided to keep a dream journal. Many of these nighttime escapades have led to a line, a chapter, or even a complete story.

“Love is love, and there’s not enough love in the world.” This belief she holds strongly, and it's the prevailing theme in her works, all of which come with a happy ending.

Faith believes her purpose in life is to entertain the masses, even if it’s one person at a time. Living just outside of Nashville, Tennessee, with the love of her life and her pit bull pup, when she’s not hard at work writing her next adventure, she can often be found playing trivia while enjoying craft beer, listening to live music, or off on an adventure of her own.
