conversation again, but Mom’s words lingered in my mind for the rest of the day, and they gave me a glimmer of hope.
4. Colton
“Well, fuck me,” I said to no one in particular as I stood alone in my bathroom.
I was pregnant. Two pink lines stared me right in the face, as if teasing me.
I was single, broke, and pregnant. Yet, I was the happiest omega in the world! I’ve only been seeing Parker for two weeks, so who would have thought this would happen? I’d been totally careless all these years, having unprotected sex with I don’t know how many alphas, which I knew was stupid of me, yet here we were. Two weeks with Parker and I was knocked up, good and dandy.
I rubbed my belly. I could raise this sweet baby by myself, I thought. Parker will probably go back to Manhattan, but even if he asked me to go with him, there was no way I could raise a baby there among the skyscrapers. Besides, I didn’t want to burden him like a ball and chain.
Nope. I’d stay here in Kingston and raise the baby in this little apartment. Or if I couldn’t pay rent, I could stay with my parents for a while—I knew there was always a spare room for me there.
“Bruce! Bruce, get over here!”
Bruce had crashed at my place for the night, because he got shitfaced at a bar down the street and had no money for a cab ride. Rather than go home with some alpha whom he’d just met, he banged on my door at two AM and promptly passed out on my couch. I didn’t mind at all, though. He was a lot more conservative than I was, and if he didn’t feel comfortable sharing a bed with a stranger, then that was his prerogative. My bro could crash here anytime he wanted.
I heard his heavy footsteps thumping down the hall toward the bathroom, where I was still holding the pregnancy test in my shaky hand.
“What is it?” he asked, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes.
“Look! Just look at this! What the hell am I going to do?” In reality, I knew what I was going to do, which was raise this baby with all the love and care I could give it, but I was interested in hearing what Bruce had to say.
“What’s that? Are you on the keto diet again? Pissing on sticks again?”
“No, you dufus. It’s a pregnancy test! I pissed on a pregnancy test and look what it says! I’m pregnant! Knocked up,” I said, making it easier for him.
“No way! That’s freaky! Who’s the dad?” he asked. He proceeded to pull out his dick and began peeing in my toilet.
“Ew, you’re nasty.” I stepped outside the bathroom, leaving the door open just a crack. “It’s Parker. Remember him? I used to date him before college.”
“Oh yeah, the alpha you cried over for weeks and weeks. I remember him. What’s he up to now? He’s back?”
“Yeah, but probably not for very long. He has his job and apartment in Manhattan, so I guess he’s going back after the holidays. I doubt he has any plans to bring along an unemployed, broke omega with a baby bump.”
I heard him washing his hands and breathed a sigh of relief. At least he wasn’t completely gross.
“Don’t be so negative all the time. Maybe he really likes you. People don’t usually start casual flings with someone they’ve already been involved with, unless they really like them. So, look on the bright side. I say you should go for it.”
He said it so simply and plainly that he left me speechless. I was at a loss for words—there was no arguing against his logic. Maybe I should give it a try. After all, what’s the worst that could happen? He could say he wasn’t interested, and then I just end up back where I’d be if I didn’t even try.
“Wow, look at this one! Isn’t that amazing?” I stepped closer to the ice sculpture. It was a snowman next to a reindeer, with exquisite detailing throughout. “I can't believe someone actually sculpted this!” I said.
Parker joined me in front of the sculpture, put an arm around my shoulders and pulled me close to him. The warmth of his body was intoxicating, and his deep voice sounded like music to my ears.
“It’s beautiful. I’m so glad you came up with this outing.”
