Someone to Love (Pride, Oregon #10) - Jill Sanders Page 0,4
aunt’s bed and breakfast. There were several families that often visited, such as Ric, Rob, and Rose Derby, who visited Pride almost every summer and were like family.
When they were younger, the two sisters were hard to tell apart. Now, however, he could tell the difference between them even if he was blindfolded. It was strange, he’d never thought of them as pretty before. Well, pretty, but not worth a second thought. Not when he’d had a line of women after him, especially after he’d started taking law classes in college.
It had been as if he was wearing a badge on his forehead that said someday I’ll be a lawyer. The moment he started school, women had flocked to get his attention. Now that he’d graduated, that number had easily doubled.
Of course, when he’d been living on campus and attending all the right parties, he’d had his pick of college women. After school, he’d rented a small townhouse near the firm he worked at in Portland, and things had changed slightly. He’d ended up hitting a few bars each weekend with friends instead.
Now, however, having been stuck helping Robin out for the past few weeks, he was having a difficult time not noticing how extremely attractive she was in his sex-starved state. Watching Robin bustle around the old barn had him not only entertained but also extremely turned on.
The way he figured it, he could either try and convince Robin to have a little fun for the remainder of his time in town or he’d need to do something to get his mind off sex.
How long had it been since he’d been with someone? A few weeks before his mother had called and said that his uncle had asked him to come back into town for a job.
The fact that he’d been the first one Todd had thought of had honored him. Until he’d found out what the job was. Of course, his uncle being smart, he hadn’t mentioned what he’d be doing until he’d agreed and come back to Pride. Then it had taken a meeting from his mother to convince him further.
It wasn’t as if George didn’t have the time off from work. Actually, he’d been thinking of quitting the job and looking for something more challenging and closer to home.
At this point, he was just happy to be back home during the holidays.
It was a week after New Year’s, which meant that he had been in town for almost three months. He was growing restless and extremely horny. Hell, he hadn’t even had anyone to kiss at the New Year’s party.
Instead, he’d stood by and watched as every one of his cousins around him had enjoyed the party with someone. Even his sister was wrapped in her husband Corey’s arms.
After a moment, he’d realized that he was the last single Jordan standing. Every one of his cousins was either married or otherwise intertwined. Or, in the case of his cousin Jacob, entangled. After all, Jacob and Rose had been flirting around each other for as long as anyone could remember.
Currently, everyone in town believed that the couple were actually living together and, since the New Year’s party, it had become pretty obvious they were a couple.
Which left George in a class all by himself. Single.
In the past, he wouldn’t have cared, but since he’d turned twenty-five, he’d found himself thinking about his future more.
He only had a few months before he’d need to start looking for another job or go back to work in Portland. What his uncle was paying him covered most of his bills, but still, he couldn’t continue to babysit and expect to keep his career afloat.
It was funny, when he’d decided on a law career, he’d always dreamed of returning to Pride and opening up his own firm. He’d dreamed of going to the local courthouse and fighting to protect the innocent, but the closer he’d gotten to the goal, the more he’d realized that his career would most likely take him away from his home.
Facts were facts. Pride just wasn’t big enough to support a lawyer.
It was one of his greatest downfalls, the inability to jump at something he wanted and sacrifice everything to get it. It wasn’t as if he was a chicken, just… cautious.
Then he realized that being stuck in Pride the last few months hadn’t been such a burden. Especially with the nice distraction of being around Robin on a regular basis.
His eyes scanned the crowded party for Robin,
