Sixteen Weeks Later - Taylor Rylan Page 0,75

you’re awake?” I asked in greeting.

“Man, not every one of us gets to wake up to blowjobs.”

I laughed because although that sounded like a perfect way to wake up, it hadn’t happened yet. “For your information, I was woken up by Dax’s alarm this morning. And yes, he’s off to the lab. It’s after seven. Why are you still in bed?”

“Because I can be? Stacy must have called me a dozen times last night, bawling. I guess her little mini won’t stop…get this…crying. I told her not my problem.” Dave grunted, and then I heard him roll over in bed before he sighed. “Am I being too harsh? Should I be nicer? I mean, it’s not my kid, and I know I’m being an asshole and everything, but again, not my kid and the fact that she cheated killed any and all feelings I had for her.”

“No, Dave, you’re not being an asshole. Have you tried blocking her number?” I got up from the bed to get a pair of socks. I needed to at least get to the store before later, and that meant getting dressed.

“What are you up to today, then, if Dax is at work?”

“I need to get groceries, and if I have time after, I’ll work some more on my paper or perhaps my book. Then I’m meeting Dax for lunch, and then we’re coming back here to swim laps and get our cardio in. You should come join us. We’ll swim and then eat dinner.”

Dave groaned. “I’m happy for you. I honestly am. But I’m not sure I’m ready to see you two all lovey-dovey in your pool. I have nothing against you two, but no, it’s really not anything that interests me and seeing you two all over each other…sigh, I’m just jaded right now.”

I laughed because at one point Dave had asked me to fuck him because he had just found out his wife was pregnant. That and he was drunk.

“Okay, so you need to get back in the game. Go out, find a lady, and have a good time. But this afternoon, you’re coming over and are going to hang out with me and Dax. I promise to wear trunks, and so will Dax. And we won’t be all over each other.” I rolled my eyes. I was going to kiss him every chance I got just to be an ass.

“Fine. But only because your pool is nice.”

“Sure, that’s why.” I tied my shoes and got up, heading to the bathroom to see what the hair situation was. Thankfully I kept it pretty short and it didn’t look too bad. Dax had said that bedhead was sexy on me, but since we were going out to lunch, I grabbed the gel and rubbed some through it and called it good.

“What are you doing? You’ve gone quiet.”

“You were on speakerphone, but I was doing my hair. I have to get to the store. I’m out of fruit. And if Dax is here, I’ll need at least twice as much as normal.”

“I need a female version of Dax. Know any?”

I stopped as I was reaching to pick up my mug of coffee. “No, but Dax probably does. Ever think to ask him? I mean, if you’re looking for someone in their twenties, he’d be the guy to ask.” I picked up the coffee and left the bedroom.

“No, not what I meant.”

I was confused. “You’re not making sense, Dave.”

“I want someone to look at me like Dax looks at you. Someone that knows what they want but aren’t quite sure how to grab it.”

Okay, that was…interesting. “How does Dax look at me?” I was curious what he thought.

“Like you’re everything. Can’t you see what’s in front of you?”

“Trust me, I know that Dax is everything. I’m trying to figure out how to not scare him off. I might be older, and I might be more settled, but I’m not exactly experienced when it comes to relationships. You know how my last one ended.” I dumped the coffee before placing the mug in the dishwasher.

“Talk to him? I mean, obviously I’m not the greatest at relationships. But I do know that communication is key. Talk to him. Ask him how he feels. Be the one to take the first step.”

I pinched the bridge of my nose. “What happened to ‘don’t bulldoze him’?”

“That was before Nassau. You went away with him and came back fucking glowing. And if you don’t let him know how you feel, someone
