Sinth Stalker - Pearl Tate Page 0,13

that I’ll need a cleaning in this corner of the bedroom. I’ve never done this before, but I feel no regret at all.

The Sovereign Scriptures are clear. As Sinth, we’re the ones with the personal dimension. We should only share it with our mates and family. As a place of peace and refuge. It should never be used as a tool to take a life.

I guess I just pissed off everyone, including our Sinth god. Again, I’m sure.

Looking at the man’s backpack and clothes, I gather them into my arms and throw them into the decontamination cycle. Even though they should be safe, if I’m going to give any of it to my mate, I don’t want her to have anything that has the virus on it.

Phasing back over to Earth, I study the younger Human male. I’m not any good at judging their ages, but he looks to be still living with his parents. Slighter, shorter, and with a bright orange hat, his face is covered in blood that’s not his own. Based on how much of his neck is missing, I’m impressed his head is only listing to the side as much as it is.

If I had to guess, his father turned first and then attacked him. I wonder if they have tents and other provisions somewhere else. The Wen-infected can travel for a very long time and cover large distances. They don’t “rest” like we would. Instead, they are constantly roaming, constantly moving—unless they’re eating, of course.

Gripping the transitioned boy, I swing him around, hugging his frame in front of me but also making sure that the weapon he has slung across his body isn’t pointing in my face. That would hurt. I haven’t had time to study this one, but from the looks of it, you use a finger pull to fire the weapon.

I haven’t seen my mate carry one of these. Perhaps she needs it? If there are more of these infected floating around the area, I’m looking forward to giving it to her. I’m not sure how long she’s been isolated out here, but the Wen virus will only spread and it’ll eventually make its way to her.

Dust blooms out around me as the Earth Human is rendered to dust. Swallowing hard, I wonder if their lives will haunt my sleep down the road. Probably not.

Despite the goal to fix these infected Human lives, I’ve never seen it done. We haven’t seen everything as Guardians, but we hear a lot. There have been other viruses and contaminations we’ve seen come and go. It seems like something will break into the mainstream news that the Coalition shares, and then inevitably, new laws will be created to protect everyone before things will get contained and under control.

Then another will appear. Spreading a different way or in a different type of species. Maybe it won’t affect Humans, but it’d affect the Taxin. You just never know what concoction will show up. According to Purlogh, the Sinth scientists are playing god, creating everything they’ve been working on—all in the name of protecting us long-term. Of course.

Tapping my foot on the floor, I wait for the decontamination chamber, popping the door open as soon as it’s done and snatching out the now cleaned contents. Everything should be exactly the way it was before, only properly sanitized.

Leaving my dimension, I return to my perch high in the tree over her small dwelling. She’s never spotted me up here, but right now she isn’t outside. This will be the best time to leave them. Phasing to the ground, I drop the items on the doorstep before phasing back up to the tree to watch her discover it.

CHAPTER SEVEN

- Zoey

There’s a thump on the front step, and I freeze, my heart beating wildly in my throat. I feel like throwing up, but I force myself to walk to the door. “Hello?” I whisper at the solid surface.

Knowing my voice won’t carry through the thick wood, I take a moment to flip my back to the door, placing my palm on my chest in an attempt to calm myself. I’m going to have a fucking heart attack if I don’t leave soon. I thought I could deal with this for a little while … at least until the weather cleared a bit. But every sound scares the shit out of me.

Swallowing hard, I tilt my body onto my shoulder, raising my voice as I try again. “Hello?”

With my ear pressed to the door,
