Sinth Salvation - Pearl Tate

SINTH SALVATION

Lilibeth

I’ve never met a man I like.

I’m determined to make sure that the physical and mental abuse I’ve endured over the years doesn’t trickle down to my seven-year-old cousin. After her mother died six months ago, I promised myself I’d get her away from her brutish father. Of course, I haven’t figured out how I’m going to do that... yet.

I’ve learned a lot over the last couple years, living away from home for the first time in my life. The school of hard knocks has taught me that no one is going to look out for you but you. After assuming that my superiors had my best interest in mind, I ended up being assigned to a town where I knew no one, hundreds of miles from my family!

I’m going to make a difference. If not in my life, then definitely in Eva’s. She doesn’t deserve to live in fear.

When I’m assigned a special missing persons case by my boss I think, “Here we go again!” What I don’t expect is for the guy to tell me he’s an alien and save my life more than once. I’m exposed to some craziness that I’ve only seen in horror flicks!

What are these strange creatures emerging from the ocean? Are they really aliens as this newcomer—who looks very human—claims?

I’m getting really sick of all the drama!

We go from one planet to the next, cleaning up messes. More often than not, we find out that the species who’ve called us in are the ones at fault. It’s like a game, and I don’t know how many more ecosystems I can watch die.

Despite how devastating all this is, I’m not ready to retire from the Guardian program. Unlike other members of our squad, I don’t feel like giving up. I want to see this end. I want someone held accountable!

When we run across a young alien Taxin uncloaked and infected by the Wen virus, I’m shocked—and dismayed! This means we’re missing something … some other way it's spread.

Sent to another landmass on Earth, we locate the missing source of the Wen virus, and I realize almost immediately I’ve met my mate. She’s beautiful and tough, but can I keep her alive with all the transitioned Humans and now alien Taxin roaming this area?

When the Ashen aliens step in, everything begins to change — for Humans, Taxin, and Sinth alike. How will this change our lives long term? Will we all coexist and come to an agreement?

CHAPTER ONE

- Lilibeth

“I’m so glad you’re back,” Eva says, throwing her small arms around me and hugging me tight. Taking advantage of the show of affection, I pull her slight, seven-year-old frame closer to me, soaking up her love. It’s something I sorely lacked when I was her age.

I’m glad I’m back to my hometown of Kopavogur, too. So much has happened, even though I only moved away one year ago for work. I squeeze my eyes shut, blocking out all the reminders of my aunt littered around the tiny living room—from her crocheted doilies laid on the side tables to the exquisite sun catchers hanging in the front window. It’s going to be hard living nearby without her here.

Aunt Margret practically raised me after my mother died. My father isn’t the loving type, and, even now, I’m not planning on living with him long. Just long enough to find someplace else to rent.

“I have something for you.” My words, whispered into her hair, have Eva pulling away to jump up and down in front of me. I reach for my suitcase, sitting to my left in front of the door where I dropped it when I came in. Tugging it closer, I smile brightly at her enthusiasm.

“You do? You do? Really?” Her excitement is exactly what I was hoping for when I picked this out.

“She said she did.” I look up at the growly voice coming from the other side of the room and see my Uncle Gunnar pulling a shirt on as he leaves his bedroom and enters the room.

Eva settles down immediately, dropping to her knees in front of me. If it weren’t for the slight shake in her hands as she braces herself against my legs, I’d think the reprimand had little effect, but I know better. He was never gentle with my Aunt Margret, and I’m not a fool enough to believe Eva’s spared his heavy hand.

“Are you staying with your father?” His deep voice moves closer as I settle my hand over Eva’s
