Secret Daddy - J.R. Gray Page 0,51

firmly believed it would help, or at least I’d pretend I did to the grave.

“So your brother is coming and Adam doesn’t know?” Jensen reiterated. “And Avery wants you to tell them before he shows up?”

“Correct.”

“You know that is going to put all the heat on you.”

“That’s what I’m saying,” I said, throwing my hands up.

Jensen was smart. This was why I was dating Jensen. He knew how it was going to be.

“This time I agree with you, Prince.”

“And I think Adam will storm out.” It was going to happen.

“You said that when he found out about us. I’m not so sure about that. I think he’ll get over it. Nothing upsets him.”

“Except when he bans people from the bar,” I said. “He can hold a grudge like a mother fucker.”

“I still don’t think so. I think there will be a lot, but I don’t think he’s going to act like a child.” Jensen parked in my drive and turned towards me.

“I think you are my brother’s best friend and you know him well, but I’ve lived with him most of our lives. He’s going to flip out and bolt. And I’m going to end up banned from the bar.”

“No, you won’t. This isn’t on you. You invited him, but it’s not your fault that he left. He’s family. I think they will all surprise you.” He had a smile that made me want to believe him, but my gut told me Adam wasn’t going to be happy.

“If you believe that, then why shouldn’t I tell them before he gets there? If this is like the prodigal son, I should be rewarded.”

“No, if he’s not there, then the heat will one hundred percent be on you for however long it takes for him to show up. If he just shows up, there will be a little heat on you for knowing, but all the attention will be on him.” Jensen picked up my hand and kissed it.

“At least we are in agreement on that much because I don’t want to be yelled at today. The sexting incident was bad enough yesterday.”

“I’m sorry, what?”

“We are not going to talk about it.” I tried to get out of the car, but he kept my hand.

“No, you don’t.”

I sighed overly dramatic. “My parents wanted to know who I was texting because I dropped my phone and I told them it was you, so they didn’t know I was talking to Avery. And then they accused me of sexting and wouldn’t drop it. So we were sexting. I don’t know what that means, but if pressed I will say I dropped my phone because of a dick pic.”

“Your family is so fucking weird.”

“You’re telling me.”

We got inside and it was like waiting for a fucking bomb to go off. I couldn’t get comfortable and every time a car drove by, I jumped.

“Is he on drugs?” My father said to Jensen, as easy as someone would say ‘pass the butter.s

“Not that I know of.”

“Don’t you like to watch him?” my father asked.

“Not every minute of every day,” Jensen replied.

“I’m seriously starting to reconsider allowing you to date our son.” He shook his head and went back to picking the marshmallows out of his fruit salad grumbling about it.

“Now I know where you get the grumbling,” Jensen whispered to me. I rolled my eyes and poured myself more wine.

Jensen leaned towards Adam and whispered. “Was he kidding or serious?”

Adam met his eyes and shrugged. “I don’t understand any of their sarcasm. I just ignore it.”

“Super helpful, man,” Jensen replied.

“I can hear you and so can they.” I elbowed Jensen in the ribs. “He was joking.”

Jensen grabbed my thigh under the table, getting dangerously close to my cock and giving me a ‘behave’ look.

I was instantly hard and squirming. Then I grumbled into my turkey. “You know I heard it that time.”

Jensen burst out laughing and clapped a hand over his mouth. “Sorry.”

“Don’t worry, dear, we all know they both do it.”

The banter continued and I started to relax, glad I hadn’t walked in and told them about Avery. It seemed he’d gotten cold feet. But as soon as I had the thought there was the unmistakable crunch of shoes on freshly fallen snow walking up the drive.

Fuuuuck.

“I have something to say…” Everyone stared at me and I got cold feet again.

I looked at Jensen for some help and he shook his head. “You’re on your own, champ. You lit your bed on fire, now you lay
