SEAL's RESOLVE - Rebecca Deel Page 0,55
the camera on the left side of the computer screen. A moment later, the camera went dark. “He cut the feed?”
“Black spray paint.”
He tapped the left side of the screen. “Run the last two minutes again in slow motion.” When Jon complied, Rafe kept his gaze glued to the bottom left corner. He’d seen something, but at normal speed, Rafe couldn’t figure out what.
He waited until he saw the booted foot in the camera shot. “Freeze that.” When the sniper complied, Rafe said, “Back up the feed by fifteen seconds.” When the flash appeared, Rafe said, “Back it up again by two seconds. I want to know what that flash is.”
A few keystrokes later, Jon isolated the screen shot Rafe wanted. “Can you clean that up?” When he did, Rafe frowned. “It’s a specialized design. I know I’ve seen that before, but can’t remember where.”
“May I see?” Kristi walked to the table with two mugs of coffee, handing one to Rafe and one to Jon.
The sniper angled the screen for Kristi to see the design.
She gasped. “Oh, no.”
Rafe captured her hand. “You recognize the design?”
“It’s the marketing logo for the company that provides security for my father, Stewart Group, and my home and business.”
CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
Rafe stared at the intertwined W and S. “What company provides the security?” They wouldn’t be providing security for Kristi much longer if he had anything to say about it.
“Ward Security.” She turned to Rafe. “They’re part of Ward Industries.”
“Your father recommended them?”
“Dad has used Ward Security for years without an issue. I didn’t look into the company myself.” She grimaced. “I guess I should have.”
“Did your father check Ward Security’s track record?”
“I doubt it. My father and Hugh’s are best friends.”
“He should have investigated the company. Ward Security isn’t as good as their advertisements claim.” Rafe had heard many things about Ward Security, all of them bad. “Brent’s working on a bid for you.”
“Good. I need a new system and monitoring company. Jon complained about the camera angles while Eli and I prepared snack trays and coffee.”
“Jon’s right. Too many blind spots and too little coverage.”
“Where would you place the cameras?”
“Do you have paper and a pen?”
Kristi hurried in the direction of the workroom. She returned with a notepad and pen, and passed them to Rafe.
He sketched a quick diagram of her house and marked the places he would set cameras along with the viewing range of each one. Rafe showed the diagram to Jon. Who better to evaluate security coverage than a world-class sniper? “What do you think?”
Jon studied the drawing before taking the pen and sketching trees at the front and back of the house. “She needs cameras here and here.”
Kristi frowned. “I’m not comfortable with any security company monitoring me or my clients through the windows.”
“The cameras would show the house at an angle. No way to see inside the house. The point is to view the front of the house with one camera and the back of the house with another.”
“Aren’t the sides of the house vulnerable to someone breaking in unobserved?”
Rafe shook his head. “We have that covered.” He tapped the cameras that would do the job. “The small blind spots don’t include wall space with a window on either floor.”
“I understand now why my security system should be replaced. I have two cameras at the moment, one at the front door and one at the back. Why didn’t Ward Security recommend all this?”
“An interesting question. You’re wealthy, and your father’s net worth is greater than yours. Both of you are prime targets for crime. A single woman should have all the bells and whistles on her security system. You don’t. Your security company should have called or sent a guard to check on you when the window shattered and the camera went dark. They didn’t.”
Blood drained from her face. “I’m lucky the kidnappers didn’t take me here. If they had, I shudder to think what might have happened if the GPS tracker had failed. When will Brent call?”
Rafe’s phone signaled an incoming call. He glanced at the screen. “Now.” Rafe swiped the screen. “You’re on speaker with Kristi, Eli, and Jon. What do you have for me, Brent?”
“A quote for Kristi. Zane pulled up schematics on her home and business plus an aerial shot of the land. I sent the proposal to your email. This is the same security system I installed at my home.”
Jon’s eyebrows rose.
“It includes everything I need?” Kristi asked.
“That system protects the most important people
