a movie. “What about Aladdin for this year?” I handed the phone back to Dallas.
“Seriously? There’s a princess in that one.” Hennessey shot me the dirty eyeball.
“Dory and Peach were girl characters. I saw them both in the pictures.” Dallas would make a damn good Princess Jasmine in those genie pants and crop top. My dick twitched in my pants just thinking about it.
“Yeah, they’re girl characters, but the costumes didn’t come with frilly dresses and eye make-up.” Even though Ozzy was shooting the idea down, he looked intrigued by it.
“Maxine could be Jasmine or better still, your mom.”
“Mom?” Kennedy started to laugh.
“You know, she’d love that.” Quentin turned his phone around to show everyone the costume. “Mom always wanted to go see those princess movies when we were kids, but none of us wanted to be caught dead going to see a girl movie with our mother.” Regret turned his eyes glassy.
“We might not have gone to the movies to see them, but we always had big movie nights when they were available to rent.” Hennessey laughed.
“We’d fight over who got to sit next to Mom,” Kennedy sighed.
“Who would be Aladdin?” Ozzy asked, his gaze moving around the table. “Obviously, I’m Jafar.”
“Obviously,” Dallas muttered.
“What was that, street rat?” Ozzy raised an eyebrow at his brother.
“Oh, no! Not me. I’m too short to be Aladdin.” Dallas had started to sweat. He looked at me with pleading eyes.
What the hell could I do? I was the newbie. The best thing I could do was keep my stupid mouth shut so I didn’t get roped into being a harem girl. I was definitely too tall for that shit.
“I think Dallas would make a great Aladdin and Saxon can play the Genie.” Quentin winked at me. “Everyone knows the real love story was between Al and his big blue daddy!”
Sweet fucking Jesus. The only thing worse than being a harem girl was being painted blue. “Uhh, I’m new here, I can’t possibly play the Genie. Hennessey’s a big guy, he’d be perfect for the role.”
“No can do, Saxon. I’ve got my own Trick or Treat to host. I hand out candy to the kids and apps to their parents. We also stick a free appetizer coupon in the kids’ candy bags. Parents always go through the treat bags, so why not include a treat for them. I kick ass with that promotion every year. You’re on your own, but I can’t wait to see the pictures!” Hennessey elbowed Quentin. Both men started to laugh.
“Okay, so we’ve got Aladdin, Genie, Jasmine and Jafar. All we need now is Abu.” Ozzy’s eyes landed on Quentin. “Since you have nowhere else to be that night, you’re our monkey.”
“Oh, hell no!” Quentin shook his head. It was the first time I’d ever seen my new friend rattled.
“Dad can be Jasmine’s father, which means the only role left is the monkey.” Ozzy’s eyes glittered. He started making monkey noises. Soon the whole table, with the exception of me, was screeching like a pack of monkeys.
“Can’t I be the tiger or the talking bird?” Quentin looked around the table for someone to save him.
“I’ll be the wise-ass bird,” Kennedy volunteered. “Don’t you think Chasten would make a great tiger? Rawr!” He made a claw with his fist
“Come on, Q! You’d be a great Abu. All the kids will love you.” Hennessey shot his brother a sweet look.
“Fine, but if anyone hands me a banana, I’m out!” Quentin crossed his arms over his chest and pouted.
“Q!” Ozzy gave his shoulders a shake. A second later, all the brothers were piling on Quentin, giving him noogies and rifling his hair.
“This is what being the baby gets me.” Quentin laughed.
Ozzy had his phone out and was typing notes with one finger. “Dallas, you’re in charge of food. Quentin, costumes, Saxon, decorations, Kennedy, candy.”
“What will you be doing?” Dallas rolled his eyes.
“Organizing all of you and bossing you around.” Ozzy waggled his eyebrows.
“Osbourne Van Halen Graves in the role he was made to play!” Hennessey laughed. “Food’s up. I’ll be right back.” He hustled away from the table.
I had no earthly idea how I was going to decorate the firehouse to look like something out of Aladdin. I’d tackle that project when I got home. For now, I was content to be accepted by my new firehouse, which was actually starting to feel more like family.
