open-mouthed. “What the fuck have we been missing?” asks Anna.
I fill them in on what I know and then I tell them the bits I’m guessing but don’t actually know for sure, like Ricardo upsetting Vinn in some way. “If no one knows about this apartment, at least you’re safe,” says Eva.
“Yeah, but cuffing her to the bed is a little extreme,” says Anna.
Eva nods. “Umm, but maybe they’ve learnt from our past mistakes,” she suggests. “If they’d have chained us to something, we’d never have put ourselves in danger.”
It brings a smile to my face and I begin to laugh, something I’ve not done much of lately.
“The trouble is,” I admit. “I like being here with him and I wouldn’t run, even if he removed the cuff. I want to get to know him.”
“Are you gonna marry him?” asks Eva.
The thought brings another smile to my face, but I shake my head. “No.”
“His ring is on your finger,” points out Anna. “You’ve already agreed, you just don’t know it.”
“I hate that he’s mad at me,” I say with a sigh. “Why the hell did I flirt with Blade?” I moan and rest my head back. “I always blow it.”
“He’ll forgive you. He just needs to calm down,” says Anna.
Once the girls have left, I shout for Blu. “I need a pee,” I say. “And a shower.”
He takes a key from his pocket and unfastens one end of the cuff from the bed. He keeps it in his hand and leads me to the bathroom. “This is stupid. Just guard the door if you’re that worried. I’m not going anywhere.”
“I guess I kinda like you at my mercy,” he says, dropping his hold on the cuff and leaving me alone to pee and wash. When I’m done, I wrap the towel around myself and open the door to find Blu waiting. I roll my eyes and march past him, sitting myself down on the couch. Blu eyes me for a minute before heading off into the kitchen and returning with a bottle of whiskey and two glasses.
Chapter Fifteen
GIA
It’s not long before my head is swimming from too much alcohol. Blu put on an awful action movie that he’s engrossed in, and I’ve drank more to cure the boredom. When the credits finally role, I do a silent cheer.
Blu had given me another shirt of his to wear after my shower, and with my legs tucked under me, it’s ridden up my thigh. Blu’s eyes land there and he takes a drink. “Vinn will accept me,” he mutters.
I twist the ring around on my finger. “How do you know?”
“Because I’m from a family that most men like him would want in on,” he confesses.
“Mafia?” I ask, frowning.
He nods. “I called my father, left a message for him to call me back. Something I ain’t done in years.”
“Why?” I ask.
“I walked away. He disowned me after that and we haven’t spoken since.”
“So why call him now?”
“For you,” he mutters, rubbing his forehead. “Because I want you.”
My heart flutters. “Do you think he’ll call you back?” I ask. Blu takes my hand and examines the ring he placed there.
“I don’t know. Maybe not.”
“Why did you walk away?” I ask.
He sucks in a deep breath and lets it out slowly. “I blamed him for Mum’s death. And for Giorgia.” I stare at him, waiting for more. “She was my sister. Twin. She and Mum died at the hands of a crazy bitch my father was fucking. An entitled mafia princess who took her revenge because he wouldn’t leave us for her. She ordered the hit.”
“Wow,” I whisper. “That’s some crazy bitch.”
“He’d been fucking her for about a year when she demanded he leave and marry her. She saw the big house and the money and wanted in. Her family wasn’t big enough compared to mine and she wanted them on the map. Marrying my father would have given her that.”
“And that’s why you hate the mafia?” I ask.
“I hate what it does to people. I left for the army and I found a brotherhood in the MC. I don’t need power or control. I don’t want my kids in that life.”
I smile weakly and hold up my hand. “But if you marry me, then you’re part of that life again.”
He nods. “I know. I argued with myself over it, but I can’t keep away from you.”
