Ruins of Chaos (Legacy of the Nine Realms #3) - Amelia Hutchins Page 0,159

It was as if the world outside no longer existed and only our need for one another mattered. On the fifth day, Knox woke me by entering me before my eyes had even fully opened. He went hard and fast until I was helpless other than to hang on to him, wrapping my legs around him while he took us both to the edge, sending us over it together.

When I woke again, it was to Knox grinning, pushing my hair away from my face. His smile was disarming and left me without shields to protect myself. His soft caresses and gentle kisses kept my walls down.

“You’re smiling, husband. I’m not sure if I should be afraid or if I should ride you to keep it there,” I whispered huskily, watching his eyes crinkling in the corners as heat ignited within them.

“I think I am going to order our camp to remain here for a few more days. I’ve decided I don’t want to leave this bed anytime soon, woman.”

“Promise?” I leaned over to kiss his mouth, listening to the purring that exploded from him with my touch.

Knox cupped my cheek, slowly rolling me onto my back. Settling between my thighs, he pushed into me gradually as he made love to me. Knox didn’t break the kiss, nor did I care if air reached my lungs. He was a drug within my system that ravaged me, destroying healthy cells and replacing them with the addiction. He placed his hands on either side of my head, pushing up from the bed to peer down at me, watching as I fell apart around him.

“You burn so fucking hot for me, Aria Karnavious,” he growled, slowing his pace to let his stare slide down my body.

His head lowered to my shoulder, kissing the scar he’d left there. Lifting my legs, he pushed them against my shoulders, thrusting harder and deeper until I was mewling from the orgasm he sent pulsing through me. His dark, husky laughter filled the cabin as our combined scents became smothering. I moved my hands to his hips, lifting my head to place kisses against his heart, and he tensed, gritting his teeth loudly before a moan slipped from his lips.

“I think the sound you make when I am fucking you is my favorite song,” he whispered, dropping beside me, gathering me closer, and running his fingers through the valley of my breasts. A knock sounded at the door, causing him to turn and look in that direction. “I want to play it on repeat, woman.”

Knox reached for the sheet, sliding it over my body before he exited the bed. He pulled on his discarded sweatpants and answered the door. Killian entered, pausing as he inhaled and turned to give me a look of unease.

“You mind telling me what the fuck you think you’re doing in here?” Knox asked, his voice hoarse and strange. His rattle sounded loud, and mine echoed it, causing Killian to step back and divert his eyes from where I sat, pulling the sheet around me tightly.

“There was an attack on a village inside Norvalla,” Killian stated, his eyes sliding toward me with a dark look within them.

“Eyes on me, asshole,” Knox warned, his tone deadly even though it held command. “Which village, and how badly were they attacked?”

“Kalamet and unknown for right now,” Killian admitted. “The rider we sent there this morning to alert them of our arrival is unable to speak. He isn’t right in the head anymore, if you know what I mean. We think he was captured and spelled. Siobhan is trying to get more out of him, but it took her most of the morning just to learn Kalamet had been attacked, past whatever magic is holding his tongue silent.”

“Kalamet is a stronghold, one of our most fortified ones on the border. Lord Kenly and his wife have held it for over a thousand years without falling to the witches. It has to be a mistake,” Knox growled, moving to his chest. “Give the order for camp to be moved. We’ll stop in Kalamet before entering the passes, see what happened, and decide if we can help them before moving on. They didn’t fall. They couldn’t have because I’d have felt it if they had,” Knox muttered, sliding his eyes to where I sat on the bed.

“You were preoccupied, Knox. You wouldn’t have felt anything past the woman riding you endlessly. From the sounds of things inside this room, it’s all
